Re: Electronic ignition distributor
You do hear of the odd failure not many considering everyone seems to have one fitted in classic cars. Hardly "everyone" has gone electronic. Like many others, our Minor has been very reliable with its traditional ignition system for nearly 60years. I understand how it works and it is dri...

Re: Electronic ignition distributor
Iv got the powerspark one fitted. I fitted a complete 45d dizzy. You do hear of the odd failure not many considering everyone seems to have one fitted in classic cars. So its worth carrying your old one as a spare. I also carry a spare cap for the 45d distributor.

Re: suspension springs corrosion
I normally squirt them with a oil and waxoyl mix. Tho you could grease them or brush oil in. Try and get it between the springs abit, oil seems to soak in well. I did paint mine first on the traveller. Been doing this for years on my fathers vehicle's. Normally if the spring has blown with rust its ...

Re: Dashcam
This thread just reminded me of my dash cam. Just spent 20mins fitting it to the astra. Just ripped it back out again as its not my thing and i didn't like it. Its only a £25 one. Il fit it the girlfriends car. Id like to get a satnav with one in it. But these are still alot of money. This one recor...

Rubber parts are poor quality these days and don't last. Grease and fit some polys and you should be good. They're almost fit and forget.

Re: oily plugs
That's if the dvla will believe you. We had to get a garage to write a letter on headed paper as proof on my father's landy. I know someone with a Rickman Ranger (escort based kitcar) who changed the engine from a 1300 to 1600. They wouldn't except it even with photographic evidence and the receipt ...

Re: 1966 Minor 1000 tweaks and modernisations!
Look at the rest of the crossmember from underneath. If it looks ok you can repair the top of it, butt weld the new floor repair on it then plug weld through this to the top of the crossmember to finish it off you can then seal the crossmember to floor join with a seam sealer. I did this on one side...

I think the advance curve is different tho don't really know. The caps bigger aswell. I know Roy would always reccomend the 45d tho never said anything bad about the 25d.

Re: Right distributor
Yeah use the standard coil. The old ones seem the best. I basically just put the whole distributor on. Adjusted the timing till it ran the best. Took it for a drive then adjusted more till I was happy with it. Apparently the caps arnt the best so iv got a spare one aswell.

Re: Right distributor
Not alot in it but the 45ds are better. Iv fitted the powerspark electronic 45d distributor. Iv since rebuilt my 25d as spare to carry.
Re: Slick 50
Probably not worth bothering with. Especially on a minor. Is it worn out and using oil? If the engine is good the best thing you do is change the oil regularly. Minors seem to run cool anyway.
