The DVLA site states that the last V5 was issued on 9/3/05, and the road tax runs until May 2006, so it's definitely still out there. It also says the engine size is 1300cc - is that your modification?

I've got a feeling the carb might need a good clean out and rebuild anyway, so I might just get a kit from Burlen. Anyone know if a float valve comes with the rebuild kit?

The fuel pump is relatively new - about 2 years old. I don't think it's overheating as it hardly uses any water, and I reversed flushed the radiator and fitted a new thermostat about 3 months ago.

Fuel pump - dirt in carb?

My '68 Minor has recently developed a fault; if I'm stuck in a traffic jam for any more than a few minutes the fuel pump starts to tick erratically, speeding up and slowing down as it does (for a couple of seconds) when you turn the ignition on after the car has been standing for a week or so. When ...

What ever happened to "Babalou"?

I was searching through my local newspaper's archive on-line today and entered the words Morris Minor (as you do). It came up with this sad story from May 17th 2000 about an 84-year-old man who had his Moggie set fire to by vandals. He had owned "Babalou" since 1969 and was very attached t...

The verdict; it worked! I switched the hoses over last night and it seems to have worked. Maybe when the hoses are the wrong way round there is enough pressure in the system to force the valve open a small amount. It must make a difference - why else would every picture I see of a Minor engine shows...

Only just had the chance to check; it seems as though my heater pipes have been connected the wrong way round; the upper pipe connected to the heater valve. From the several pictures I've seen, they are connected the other way round. Would this account for the valve not working? I'll switch them ove...

Mine's probably about the same, and I know that when it's pulled all the way out (ooh-err!) the valve is as closed as it is when it's not attached to the cable. There is full movement, but my guess is that the valve has been mis-manufactured.

Where can I find Cam's link?

Thanks

Yes, heat is still coming from the outlet of the heater matrix when the control knob is pulled out, just as it does when it's pushed in. I've not felt the hoses yet, but will try it later.

It was definitely the oil filter light which was connected to the temp sender. It stays off now.

Anyone got any ideas why the brand new cable-operated heater valve I bought from DSN Classics doesn't seem to work?

Thanks all! I'm very relieved - it's a bit unnerving driving along and seeing a warning light on! I shall remove the wire from the temp sender tonight and stop worrying.

What an excellent forum this is! Thanks!

Just seen your post, Cam. I replaced the oil pressure sender about 6 weeks ago because the oil pressure light never came on at all. Now it comes on when I turn the ignition on and goes off a second or two after it starts.

Where would the oil filter senser nomally be?

Ah! This sounds like it makes sense. My Moggie has had a reconditioned engine, and has had the spin-on oil filter mod. There is also a temperature sender plug just below the thermostat housing which has a wire attached, so this is probably what's happened. I've had several cars in the past with A or...

It's definitely not the oil light, as that is the orange one on the the right, above the red ignition light and comes on just before I start the engine and goes off a second or so after the engine has started, just as it should. The light I assume to be a temperature warning light slowly comes up fr...

Overheating

I have a '68 Minor 1000, and as I've only owned it for 5 months (my first moggie!) I don't know whether it's normal or not; the orange warning light on the left of the speedometer comes on after the engine has been running for about ten minutes. This only started in late Spring, when the weather sta...

RE: engine number

Could be. It's definitely not the original engine as it was a reconditioned unit judging by the fresh green paint and general very good condition of it. It does have the 1100 tag on it as well. Another thing; it has a spin-on oil filter, which could have been added, or maybe was there already. In wh...

RE: engine number

Re: my Mystery Engine (RKM 1121E 98586) I've also noticed, whilst trying to use a strobe for adjusting the timing, that the timing marks in my engine are attached BELOW the crank pulley, and therefore impossible to see because the front crossmember is in the way. All other A-Series engines I have se...

I have a 'mystery' engine too; RKM 1121E 98586. Looks like a reconditioned one to me.

Still haven't had a chance to check the UJs, but I've now checked everything on the front, and it's definitely the steering rack that's faulty. I also uncovered another horror; the nearside lower suspension arm was cracked! Fortunately, and thanks to Bryan Gostling, I was able to go and pick one up ...
