Re: Can’t get grease in

It is a design change. The later parts book has the distance piece and also two sets of lower trunnions with different part numbers. The later ones apply after car number 1083886. I had looked at four used trunnions that still had the original bushings in place, no tube. It's definitely a good idea ...

Re: Can’t get grease in

Phil, you describe a tube between the bushings in the lower trunnion. Is this a late in production change? Over here 59 is by far the most come vintage and I've never seen a tube in original trunnions. Did they actually make a design improvement late in the run? I do have a 67 but haven't worked on ...

Re: Smiths oil pressure gauge not working

Have you opened it up? You'll find that both gauges are of the same design, a curved flat tube that "uncurls" with pressure and this movement moves the needle. You don't report an oil leak, so the curved tube should be fine. The next thing to look at is the gear on the needle stem that is ...

Re: Clutch judder

Clutch engagement with the mechanical linkage does not move the engine forward. If there is any movement it would be rearward because the external force is rearward. However, the relay shaft that pivots in the gearbox limits the effect of the external force from the clutch pedal. Internally there is...

Re: The front end design on my 1959 Morris Minor

One of the issues with the eyebolt bushings is the diameter of the pin. Considering the weight of the rear is spread between two pins whereas the front is carried by just one, it's under designed compared to the same bushing/pin used on the rear springs. The front also carries more weight and has to...

Re: Indicators

I apologize. I check in daily and with the short pause in the post I lost track of the original part of the post that describe the set up. Had I gone back and re-read the whole post then all fits together and simply using terminals 2 and 6 for both left lights and both right lights does the job for ...

Re: Indicators

A factory installed DB110 was only used with very specific wiring harness and light function. With that information along with using "two wires" to connect the flashers, I saw a need to provide advice. However, now I'm stuck trying to explain what I'm talking about. In the meantime you've ...

Re: Indicators

When you say your car has a DB10 relay, that indicates it has combined stop and turn signal bulbs. When you say "4 way flasher system wired directly to DB10 terminals for L+R, so only needs two wires.", indicates that the two wires powered the solenoids in the DB10 which completes the circ...

Re: Indicators

Yes, to Bill who added four way flashers via the DB10. Non-switch power must be supplied to the flasher switch which in turn will activate the solenoids in the DB10. The now working rear turn signals will also cause 12v to be present at the brake light switch. Press the brakes and the ignition switc...

Re: Indicators

How did you wire the four way flasher into the DB10? Depending on how you did it, power can back feed into the ignition circuits and the engine can run on each flash. My experience is once the ignition issue is resolve, you'll find that the flashers will not work indefinitely. Either the flasher uni...

Re: solid brake pedal

The lack of free play continues to be mentioned but never addressed. It can only be the master cylinder preventing the release of the residual pressure with the symptoms reported. The floor cover over the master cylinder must be removed. The push rod must move a bit before contacting the piston. You...

Re: Capillary temperature gauge

I passed mine through the windscreen wiper cable hole. I don't recall if the wiper tube needs to be removed, but I don't think so. The rubber grommet no longer has the thin rubber sealing the tube so the capillary simply passes through.

Re: "De Luxe"?

It gets messy due to different market specificationts. I can confirm USA models but Australian will be different. All USA models had heaters and over-ridders. I do believe all travelers had stainless window frames. The USA market Deluxe models of 2 door saloon and convertibles had stainless frames b...

For 57 Deluxe means leather seats and two sun visors. Depending on market and model it will also include stainless window frames and bumper over riders. For 57 it might also include a chrome number plate lamp.

Due to the slot in the cross member, there should be a washer to continuous surface for the nut/lock washer.

Re: Any ideas for floor reinforcement?

Don't forget the floor wasn't designed for the Subby seat mounting. That is the fault of the previous owner who installed them. They should have considered the concentration of forces at the mounting point.

Many say you don't need to, but I loosen the outboard selector, (I think it's 1-2) so the fork can be rotated to create a opening for the selector to pass.

Re: Brake Master Cylinder - Pedal removal?

There is no need to completely remove the rear brake fitting. Loosen it enough to ensure that the fitting can rotate on the brake line. Then undo the banjo bolt from the master cylinder. It is much easier to start the banjo bolt than the brake fitting when re-installing. You do need to remove the si...
