Re: chassis no
If it's a 1964 Saloon/Trav/Conv. you should have a STAMPED chassis number (numbers only) - stamped directly into the bodyshell (as Mike has explained), plus an additional "Cowley" plate screwed to the o/s bulkhead which repeats this number, but includes prefixes.

Re: Two scrappers
C'mon JJ
Open their bonnets and write down the chassis/body & engine numbers!!!
Only takes 5mins to record the gearbox/rear axle and key numbers too!
surely you can do all this without removing your pipe from your lips?!!

Only if she's fitted with disc brakes - do you remember the thousands of complaints BMC received from the GPO when drivers refused to use them due to poor brakes?

The "Database" is only as good as the information it contains - it STILL has loads of gaps! Consists of 30 pages of numbers & details NOT covered by previous MM publications. Therefore, the more info I have, the better position I am to assist enthusiasts. So, PLEASE pm/e-mail me your v...

Gearbox numbers
Never wanted to venture into this subject, but; I'm helping James Mercer find the TRUE identity of his 1960/1 2dr saloon. Normal identity numbers are unavailable - either removed/defaced. So, we're looking to match the ONLY numbers we have, the engine/gearbox. Therefore, PLEASE pm or e-mail me on po...

CKD Minor's AGAIN
Firstly, were Traveller's ever available as CKD? Apart from Australia, what other countries used their own identification/chassis numbering system? As for the "LBM"...this is the moulding under the rear window of 2drs which continues PAST the roof gutter line - the body codes are different...

Grr
What was the question again?
Ever any CKD Travellers?

Re: VIN issue
James,
What about the chassis numbers stamped directly into the engine bay bulkhead - should be 6 digits, no prefixes?!
If there's a chance the 9MH isn't original, then M/A2S3 86**3* would make sense - in this case you'd be looking at body numbers in the 347xxx-350xxx range.

Re: VIN issue
James Referred to the book; Z28706 = early '61 (non LBM) 2dr with 9M-U-H 490xxx engine Chassis range; M/A2S3 873xxx-875xxx Body number range; 349xxx-354xxx ANY digits of the "original" chassis number legible? If I had the exact body number, rather than just the code, I could be of help. Pr...
