timing cover breather

Good afternoon everyone, I've a 1275 Midget engine for my Morris. It has (or should have if it wasnt broken off) a breather/oil separator can on the timing chain cover. This would be connected by a hose to the inlet manifold to vent the block of any fumes. If I substitute a plain (without breather) ...

Sorry to be a complete novice in these things but what do these Aldon kits replace? Do thay do away with the points and condenser? A brief description would be helpful for me if you dont mind?
Cheers, colin.

boot lid seal

stupid boy here. I took the rubber boot lid seal off to paint the inside of the boot and now I want to put it back, I cant remember which way round it goes. The car is a 1957 saloon and the seal is the early sort that fits on the flange around the boot opening. Does the lip of the seal point inwards...

sierra 5 speed

Hello, I've run one in my Morris 4 door for a few years now and it has a 1275 midget engine. I had one or two problems when I fitted it but it was worth the effort. Its nice to have synchro on first and the 5th gear makes motorways much better. Problems - 1) Couldnt get a Midget clutch plate to suit...

Hello, Years ago, I had a pair of 7"x14" Wolfrace on the back of my truck. They were fine if you we empty or only lightly loaded but if there was too much in the back, the suspension compressed and allowed the wheelarch lip to just rub on the tyre. They would just be too wide I guess for a...

electronic ignition

Good morning everyone, I'm thinking of getting an electronic ignition for my Morris to do away with the points and the hassle of setting them. The Lumenition kit seems pretty popular but I've noticed that some people seem to have problems with it. Are there any alternative makes? I've seen another o...

Hello Wal,
This one's secondhand but comes with the instructions which say its a 'sucker'. I was hoping to put it between the grill and rad as a 'pusher' but it looks as though that not going to work if the blades arent right.
Thanks to everyone for your comments.
Regards Colin.

Hello again, Just seemed logical to go with a thermostatically controlled fan. The engine heats up in start/stop traffic but the engine revs are low and so the fan doesnt really deliver and then vice versa when travelling on a motorway, there's plenty of air going through yet the standard fan is wor...

kenlowe fan

Hello everyone,
I've bought myself a kenlowe electric fan. Its the type that fixes through the radiator core with cable ties. Does anyone have any tips about fixing one? What about in front or behind the radiator? Any advantages either way?
Cheers, Colin.

tyre clearance

Yes, you are right. I had a set of van wheels and 165's tyres with the original drum brake set up and the tyre on one of the wheels wheel used to just brush the upright. The other 4 wheels were ok so a case of everything being at its worst I suppose. However, when I fitted a Marina-style disk set up...

Larger saloon fuel tank

Hello chaps and chapesses, Any opinions over a larger fuel tank for a saloon? I’ve enquired at the Birmingham shop about their larger tanks but it seems their tank grows upwards so the spare wheel doesn’t fit into its slot in the boot anymore. So, what about cutting an existing tank just below the f...

Hello again, Thanks for that but I'm not sure if I made too good a job of explaining what I'm after. I'm fitting a 13" rims and slightly lower profile tyres so I'd like to know how different these are from the original crossplies or indeed 14" wheels with 145 radials on. If someone could r...

tyre sizes

Hello everyone,
Does anyone know the circumference of a standard 520x14 morris tyre? I'm fitting some radials to my unfinished restoration and I wondered how they compare in size. I'd like to know if the speedo will need recalibrating etc.
Thanks, Colin.
