Re: Replacing Timing Chain
It should be pretty foolproof for you as the two sprockets are both keyed to the shafts. So as long as the two timing marks on the sprockets are lined up when you slide them onto the shafts complete with your new chain that is all you need to do. Prior to final assembly, I would test fit each sprock...

Re: Replacing Timing Chain
I have converted mine to duplex using some Cooper timing chain sprockets that I got from Phil the Hill. The main thing that needs modifying is the front engine mounting plate, in that there are two fixing screws behind the crank sprocket that will need countersinking to clear the duplex sprocket, I ...

Silsden in West Yorkshire.
Woke up to a light covering over everything maybe 1/2" deep, but roads are clear so far, it just keeps doing very light snow showers and then sunny intervals.

Re: Quality tools
Agreed When I was a schoolboy my dad would never lend me his tools, he said I had to save up and buy my own if I wanted any. I thought at the time he was just being mean, but I soon realised what a valuable lesson that was. So in my school holidays he got me a pocket money job cleaning machines down...

Re: Home (replica) Chrome kits
Surprisingly good results can be obtained with powder coating. Don Don I wonder if the powder technology has moved on since I had some motorcycle rims done years ago. They looked good for a year or so, but eventually just turned grey, admittedly they have never rusted again but dont look very nice....

Re: Value of our Minors
According to the Traction Talk website it is unlikely that the coking coal will not be any good for preserved road and rail steam.

Job done I made the bobbin a bit longer than normal so I could get the O ring below the rust hole that had gone through the side. https://lister-engine.com/coppermine/albums/userpics/10026/Breather_Canister_002_29-01-21_28229.JPG The visible band of the aluminium bobbin is a bit thinner than normal ...

What Phil said, with the added advantage of getting a higher crankcase depression and thus less oil escaping from the rear scroll seal.

Re: Value of our Minors
Unfortunately the steam preservation world is having great problems obtaining coal now, I know it will never be used commercially again but it seems that some preserved railway lines may disappear due to the high running costs of using imported coal. The traction engine owners are also affected as t...

I for one just don't get why you would want to convert a Minor to electric power.

Re: Breather Oil Trap
This one was surprisingly good in the bottom, it had a layer of oily sludge which had kept the steel clean and shiny, the upper part was a different story though.

Value of our Minors
Does anyone believe our Minors are going to continue to appreciate in value ? I can see them starting to decline with all the talk of electric cars and the demise of petrol, we may all be left with a museum piece that nobody wants in a few (not many) years time. It alright being told that there will...

Re: Breather Oil Trap
Well Timberman decided to send me his breather canister for modification and it arrived today. It had a heady smell of petrol when I unpacked it so from that I guessed that Timberman had given it a good rinse out. To all intents and purposes it looked to be in decent condition, and I reckon most fol...

Re: Which coil?
I have an accuspark red coil on mine and have had no trouble in the two years it has been fitted. I do carry an old coil as a spare for when it does give up the ghost, I ran the car on the old coil for a couple of weeks just to make sure I am not carrying a dud around as a spare. I also have a spare...

Re: Engine dies but restarts easily
My coil was originally mounted on a bracket above the alternator, but was causing problems with it getting too hot. When you think about it when positioned there it gets all the heat from the being next to the engine and also a a blast of hot air coming at it through the radiator. Not to mention the...
