Re: Glove box x2

Why was the post-MM Minor designed with two gloveboxes in the first place? :-? Surely one is sufficient, and the driver's box is so hard to access (or self-emptying!). Was it to save on having to make a second dash pressing for LHD models? When restoring my Minor (with the same double-lid dash as yo...

Re: Windscreen rubber

What frustrates me about this situation is, I have successfully installed a windscreen in Mog before. If I've done it in the past, why can't I do it now? But you're not wrong, Mr Bond. A glassfitter in Jefferson City, about thirty miles from me, is willing to give it a try. Now I just have to...

Re: Windscreen rubber

I think you're quite right - but I'm still not able to fit the screen! My suspicion is that I just don't have the requisite skills (despite having done it in the past). I'm consulting with local glassfitters.

Re: Windscreen rubber

I got a fresh seal from one of the usual suppliers, and it seems to fit much better. May get the new windshield in in the next few days.

My word of caution: only get windshield seals from Minor specialists! My first ill-fitting one came from a rubber extrusion conpany.

Re: Squeeeeeeeak

If it's the bushings causing it, I use a rubberized grease (like brake caliper grease - the thiiiiick rubbery stuff) on assembly. Totally eliminates squeaking and is very weather-resistant. If it's not bushings, could be loose suspension parts (damper, eyebolt maybe?) rubbing against the car body, o...

Re: INTERIOR MIRROR REPLACEMENT

I had a piece of glass cut some years ago, and it worked fine for a few years, then the silvery backing pickled up due to sun/heat exposure. Probably worth applying a layer of plastic over the backing. Now I'm playing with the rear view mirror out of a 60s Thunderbird, which is wide and stylish and ...

Re: Damper level monitor

Perhaps because it's easier to tell the level by a quick glance, rather than by breaking knuckles wrenching on the filler plug in confined spaces? I really like this idea.

Re: Windscreen rubber

The old seal was badly perished - and in any case, is cut into a dozen strips now. Replacing the rear window is about the worst job I've ever done on Mog... I did try heating the seal (in bath water, then with a blowdryer, then [at the lowest temperature] in the oven), but it made no differenc...

Windscreen rubber

Hi all, About this time last month, someone (vandals? Drunken top-floor neighbors?) put three big whams into Mog's windscreen. A new screen and seal arrived in time for me to give it a try this weekend. As I remember from reinstalling Mog's old screen after the restoration, the process for a one-pie...

Re: Wiring for demister fans

If I follow your diagram correctly, the resistor is wired in parallel rather than in line - which would explain the additional on/off switch. In the original Jeep wiring diagram (granted using a different switch), it's wired in line. Would wiring the resistor in line cause damage to the rheostat or ...

Re: Wiring for demister fans

Now I have another problem...but at least I'm learning! My other major upgrade for the heater is a new blower motor from an '80s Jeep Cherokee. I selected this motor because it fits nicely into the round core, and its squirrel-cage wheel is easily modified to fit as well. With the new blower m...

Re: Engine and gearbox mounting rubbers

You may find good new-old-stock ones on eBay - if they've been carefully stored for the intervening decades, the rubber may not have perished. I found one still in its BMC box! 8)

Re: Replace wiper motor for 2speed.

That's exactly what I did - though I also modified my gear wheel to have a larger sweep than standard (ended up making it too large). You'll need to make a plate to mount the round-body motor, and modify the wiring, but otherwise it all connects up the same as the old motor - you can reuse your rack...

Wiring for demister fans

Hi all, I've been undertaking some homebrew upgrades to Mog's round Smiths heater, which I'll detail in a later post. For now, I need another pair of eyes for the wiring; I'm adding some small CPU fans into the demister vents to act as boosters for the airflow. What I want is this: 1) the demister f...

Re: B post cracking

Great photos! Thanks, Mark. My "complex shape" is the pressed steel that forms the area where the cracks are, at the leading edge base of the side windows. Strengthening the area would probably be a fairly simple matter, but repairing the "skin" to make it look good will be harde...

Re: B post cracking

Mike, I think you're quite right about that - but that's pretty daunting on anything but a bare shell! :o It would help if there were repair panels available for this area. I can fabricate a flat or single-curve patch easily enough, but this is a complex shape.

Re: EYEBOLT FULCRUM PIN

Basically friction, as far as I can tell. This is my least favorite part of the Minor's otherwise rather innovative front suspension. Well, I guess I'm not big on the lever-arm dampers, but beggars can't be choosers. beware crossthreading that nut! You have to disassemble the whole thing again to re...
