Re: Daily use classics, very rare now.

Indeed. The 948cc engine was introduced in 1956, but they came with the one-piece windscreen.

The 1098cc engine was introduced in 1962.

Re: spray paint at poundland

They also do 300ml cans of carb cleaner for £1, and it works pretty well - used it to clean my Minor's original carb yesterday.

Just enough to clean the outside of one carb fairly thoroughly.

Re: Cleaning carburettor with thinners

Looks good, though your carb should have a metal heat shielding around that fuel pipe between the float chamber and the carb, else you may suffer from fuel vaporisation.

Re: MOT Pass!

Pah! The good old Mercedes 190E (the C-class's predecessor) came with a full-size spare.

Presumably, you won't pass a car with a space-saver fitted?

Re: MOT Pass!

A car (merc C class) came in for test a few weeks ago, it FAILED... 1 of the rear tyres FAILED less than 1.6mm so a refusall of cert was issued. He wasn't pleased. But the car had done over 800 miles in the 10 days since the origonal test. Could he not have simply fitted the spare, or was that worn...

Re: MOT Pass!

Congratulations on the MOT, Roy.

Any pics of your 'naughty' set of wheels?

The gaiters supplied by ame353 (Andrew Eggleton) seem to be of reasonable quality - certainly far better than some very thin floppy rubber ones I previously fitted that only lasted about 6 months! :o

Re: Daily use classics, very rare now.

You will get a wave from me, like it or not, if you are around East Staffs. I remember my first outing in my Austin 7 in the 60's when I flashed a Vintage Bentley - the driver gave me 2 fingers for being a cheeky upstart. Hopefully we have moved on from then! It seems we have; I was driving through...

Re: 'Red' engine quick question

Yes, it indicates a 'Gold seal' fully rebuilt unit, as opposed to a 'Silver seal' partially rebuilt one. This thread mentions a similar engine number:

Re: 'Red' engine quick question

You need to look at the first part, e.g., 10V, and compare it to this list:

Re: MOT tester Kent area

I recommend King Street Motor Services, who specialise in Morris Minors.

40 King Street
West Malling
Kent ME19 6QT

Tel: 01732 843135

The head honcho there, Andrew, is a proper old-school chap who really knows his Minors (he drives a Traveller).

Re: Things that make you go AAAAARRRRGGGHHH!!!

I was shuffling down a hill in a traffic jam the other day, and a pedestrian on the other side of the road gave me a big grin and a thumbs-up, which was nice! :) Things that currently make me go aargh are my laptop, which seems to keep filling its C: drive space right up, despite my best attempts to...

Re: Daily use classics, very rare now.

I use my 1970 Traveller as a daily, now on 153,000+ miles. In fact, I sold my 'modern' car, a 1998 Peugeot 306 Cabriolet on Monday, having only owned it since June of last year - I only used it for about a month and a half before the cambelt snapped, bending 10 valves! It then sat about in the stree...

Try to keep any excess oil/grease off any rubber parts (e.g., bushes) and the wiring loom - oil rots the rubber.

Re: Which brand for electronic Ignition

I know what you mean. I owned a BMW E30 325i that had a Megasquirt system fitted by its previous owner, and it's quite arduous trying to make sense of the mapping. Fortunately, it had an 'Autotune' facility, where it could automatically create a reasonable enough map simply by driving it, but it nev...

Nice work. What are the wheels? They appear to be standard Minor rims but have more of an offset, almost like front wheel drive car rims.

Re: Traveller drip moulding loose

I would carefully clean up the surfaces to be joined and use some epoxy resin (e.g., Araldite) to bond it back together, holding it in place with a suitable heavy item to lean against it while the glue dries.
