Q. The first Platinum Grey Series MM Low Light (as launched at the London Motor Show 1948) in the onl...

Re: Proposed Vandalism by Highways England

They'll never get away with it. The power of Titchmarsh et al will prevail! It is good to think Mr Titchmarsh could do something actually useful and positive with this particular issue after obviously making his dosh from a great variety of 'celebrity' exploits. Good luck to him with this particula...

Proposed Vandalism by Highways England

The future of the world famous RHS Gardens at Wisley and 500 specimen trees, including the giant Redwoods are all under threat from Highways England in proposal options to widen the A3. If you care for one of our unique historical sites that would take hundreds of years to even try to replicate ther...

Re: Mystery item Suitcase

Think you have answered it Firedrake (your reply post beat mine posted around at the same time) I understand the name Brexton was an amalgamation of the two company names Brooks and Sexton that continued on to make the famous picnic cases with their own name and for the famous department stores own ...

Re: Mystery item Suitcase

Yes, it does look like a bit 'siimilar' in shape to one of the range of 'light car trunk' made by J B Brooks Ltd (cycle and motorcycle saddle and saddlebags etc.) originally produced from around 1919 to fit usually on a fold down rear car luggage carrier. However the Brooks were made to a much highe...

MIMOSA PUDICA would appear to share similar conditions favoured by the Ginger Bush (sheltered, enclosed 'warm moist spaces) a perrenial herb of the Pea family. Commonly known as 'Sensitive Plant' or 'Touch Me Not Plant' - Pudica -from the latin Shy, Bashful or Shrinking. Mimosa Pudica is often grown...

Re: In the future will Britain export anything very much special ?

Nah, being surrounded by sea we can swim    Yep, and we should also be able to more intelligently manage that same swimming area for the remaining fish surrounding 'our' island, instead of this daft present EU 'fishing quota' system involving chucking back tons of perfectly good but...

Re: In the future will Britain export anything very much special ?

This is beginning to appear ominous - no one as yet has said we have anything 'very much special' so far at all to export, if this forum is in any shape or form to be indicative of the wider population at large ??, (and trying to slightly steer back to the original post question) Apparently the old ...

Re: Austin A35

My first car an A30 was a joy to drive even as the predecessor to the A35 that had the larger engine and larger rear window. Re: In the future will Britain export anything very much special ?

It was not a question of being optimistic back then when Morris Minors and the majority of other UK makes of cars were being exported in large numbers - it was a question of necessity to get the country back on its feet after the 2nd world war. Back then exports had preference over the home market....

In the future will Britain export anything very much special ?

The Morris Minor was a Nuffield Exports Division Company resounding success as something typically special, then as a British produced well designed durable item of the post ww2 era, being exported to many other countries both assembled and to those selected countries in crated knocked down form in ...

Re: What was your first car?

1954 Austin A30 Sage green 4 door (tiny rear doors) The salesman had parked it tight against his showroom wall as that complete nearside was a dull finish as opposed to the rest of the car that was very shiny. I wondered why he ushered me into the driving seat so keenly! (It turned out the previous ...
