Depending on my shifts I may well be up for another run to Brighton. Hopefully a bit later in the year than March.

5-leaf spring going flat?

Ten years ago this month I fitted a new rear spring on the offside of my 2-door. Probably 95% of the time it's just me in the car and now the top of the rubber bump stop is within 1cm of the flat plate. I'm guessing the spring has 'flattened' a bit? Is this typical (bearing in mind I'm no lightweigh...

Err, that assumes all the other Motorway drivers are driving correctly, which often isn't the case.

Lucky indeed it happened in a field at such low speed. I would ensure that all your wheel cylinders are replaced ASAP as they could have come from the same duff batch. Also check the brake pipe that comes out of the rear of the master cylinder heading towards the rear axle. Many of these are made of...

As I said before, becoming the registered keeper doesn't automatically make you the owner. At which point you become the owner in law is vague, but bear in mind that: 1) A couple of months of reasonable storage charges will easily exceed the market value of the Minor. 2) If the previous owner had an...

You are lucky to find previous owners who were interested in the car's fate. When I got the logbook back from the DVLA I sent SAEs to both the previous owners listed on it. I only heard back from one address, the chap living there there told me the previous owner had moved out the year before and ha...

Thanks. I'm really pleased too, however, not out of the woods yet. I will update as soon as I hear anything. I'll keep the questions coming too! Cheers Ken Ken, don't worry. I went through all this when I 'rescued' my 4-door exactly 10 years ago. The DVLA will (or should) write to the previous regi...

Don't worry - the king pin swivels can only fall out when the wheel is lightly loaded - often when turning in at low speed. As I understand it this is usually the case, but a colleague at work who used to drive a Minor told me he had one collapse on his Minor as he went over a hump back railway bri...

Are you sure it's that much? A couple of litres every 50 miles is an amazing amount to loose. It would mean buying a new can of oil every time you fill up with petrol! Does this mean your oil pressure warning light comes on all the time? I would say my engine is well worn and it requires roughly a h...

From the UK taxpayer's point of view this would be a very stupid waste of our money as the large majority of bribes would only benefit foreign-based manufacturers!

I have a feeling its due to US litigation / liability laws. I guess the risk of being sued for $millions makes it too risky. :-?

I agree, this is an idiotic article by the RAC which totally ignores the huge environmental & energy costs involved in making new cars.
