Re: clarkson
This could be a good thing in the long run. He'll find a new vehicle to entertain those of us who enjoy non PC schoolboy humour and be out of the hair of those who don't. I think it was getting harder to come up with fresh ideas for Top Gear anyway.
Re: New Tyres
There's been some recent discussion on tyre pressures that you might want to check out. We all have slightly different views/experiences and you may want to experiment within the sensible range to see what you are happy with.

Re: the mag
Yes,I doubt that there's a more sensible Classic car around. Totally practical and with 'minor ' tweaks' quite usable as a daily driver. Find a good one, look after it and it will be fine. Mind you a good Beetle is an interesting alternative. I've got both and struggle to decide which I prefer. Both ...

Re: Vinyl/leather repair kits
I don't think there's a definitive answer on this one. Depends on your budget and the look that you want. You can sometimes get great secondhand seats that match for not a lot of money. But there could be lots of satisfaction in restoring the original seats.
Re: Boot lid
Couldn't find one 6 years ago. Perhaps someone's started to do them?
Re: clarkson
The bloke never complained though... Suppose it'll all come out in the wash.

Re: Six Nations Rugby
American football... Admirable but a bit contrived perhaps? Don't know what went wrong for Scotland in the rugby, they promised to be competitive at the start of the tournament then seemed to loose the will to compete. Anyway a great final day.

I agree. Very odd that there are no photos of engine or underside of the car. Much better ones come up for sale on here regularly for less money.
Re: Eclipse
Just in case anyone doubts that Derbyshire is Gods chosen place, at the point of maximum eclipse the cloud thickened to the perfect density where we could all stand and watch the eclipse without welding goggles! Mind you in 1999 it was thick clouds and we saw bugger all.
Re: clarkson
So the great BBC Clarkson inquisition started today... Any predictions on the outcome?

Don't suppose you've got some crappy old in- line fuel filter somewhere? That's what did me some years ago.

Yes, definitely MOT except, like my 1955 Austin. Whether they should be or not is controversial! Please keep it safe, even though you don't have to get it a ticket every year.

Re: Alternative wood for traveller framing.
We should be stocking up on ash now, then! Newly cut ash is a joy to work with. It's a little known fact that, due to its low water content, ash logs can be burned reasonably successfully without seasoning. One for the pub quiz....

Re: What engine actually fits?
My traveller has a 1275 A series from a marina and is very capable, sticking to national speed limits. On a 200 mile plus trip to Holy Island last year my wife's new Golf was 35 minutes ahead. It looks pretty original too but probably wouldn't win any concours points! Main problem is 'modern' driver...
Re: New Tyres
Thanks Chesney, its great to learn something new everyday, especially when it could be a safety issue. I'm more bothered about safety now the grandchildren are wanting to go out in the cars. Thanks for the Yale key tip 'aupickup', can't quite work out where I should stick it ( as the actress said.....)
Re: New Tyres
Well that was trickier than I expected. Definitely a faint stamping on all 5 wheels. Not easy to make out ( I had them shotblasted and repainted a few years back). Certainly all 5 digit stampings and final digit is '7' on 3 of the wheels. I'm pretty sure of a first digit 'L' on one. Perhaps I should...
