JimK,

The A021R's have a reasonably conventional tread pattern, the ones you describe I think are the A032R's?

In the damp you need a bit of care, but full wet they are ok.

Started off with 1380 and 100bhp at the flywheel, 3.9 diff and 'hardened' half shafts. No 'dropped' clutch starts (what for?), but lots of enthusiastic driving (incl. a number of track days), and no broken half shafts in about 15,000 miles. Power now around 105bhp, same 3.9 diff, but LSD and Yokoham...

I use the standard Metro coil bracket that goes on the head stud second from the back (next one to the steady bar)

Make sure that the metal bar that goes down inside the electrical coil to make a 'solenoid' is free to slide - WD40 will usually help here. You should NOT be able to just lift the arm out - there is an interlock that is released when the power is applied to make it work. The interlock prevents the a...

Yes it is a 12mm thick 'J' bracket that fits behind the original drum mount on the upright. It is fitted with 3 high tensile 8mm Allen screws and Nyloc nuts.

The original Midget caliper mount adaptor is also solid, and about 10mm thick.

they were barely adequate when new for the much lighter spridget Mmmm!! Standard Midget discs, steel wheel hubs and bearings, combined with Metro 4-pot calipers, Mintex 1155 pads, 2.2:1 boost servo etc. can be made to be very much more than adequate!! The high boost servo gives a good 'feel' to the...

Well modified 1380, discs, uprated suspension etc. etc. Complete spec given to Norton Insurance and £130 per year for 3,000 miles, fully comp, 4 drivers, full European recovery, track day cover (see below!) etc. Very friendly, helpful and easy to contact - haven't had to test them on a claim yet, an...

Paul, So long as the radiator is in the standard position and the grille is also standard, the Spal 9" will fit. Make sure you mount it as low as possible, to avoid contact with the bonnet catch, when it closes. I bought mine from a Spal agent - M Phillips. Very helpful. You will need a mountin...

A 9" Spal fits in front of the radiator with no mods at all. Cools our 1380 (without engine fan) in any conditions, including getting stuck on the M25 on the record 100°F (38°C) day a few years ago -more that could be said of a number of modern cars boiling merrily on the hard shoulder.

A Spal 9" fits perfectly in front of the radiator. There are 2 models, straight and curved blades. The curved blades have a higher airflow rate. I have one with a well modified 1380, no metal fan, and no problems with temperature control. It's on a thermo switch fitted to the header tank, and c...

Engine is definitely Marina/Ital, but the gearbox may not be the 1275 version. I THINK they all had a reverse light switch up by the gear lever?

Also is it the close ratio version that is fitted to all Spridgets, except the original, early Frogeyes?

but all these calipers have the same two bolt fixing
The Metro calipers are definitely different hole spacing to the Spridget, and further from the hub centreline.

Still looking for the drawing, if I cannot find it will make a new one from the actual bracket.

Apologies for the delay.

I have a drawing of the bracket for the Metro caliper to Minor upright somewhere 'safe'. Will find, scan it and post on this forum.

Jimmy, I think that's probably the right way to go. When I restored our 1958 Minor in the late '90s I debated what to fit. I had fitted some 'plant on' aftermarket flashers when my mother bought the car secondhand in 1965, but they had to go and I very seriously considered going the DB10 'equivalent...

Please do not use any 'EP' oil in the Minor gearbox (other than side valve). EP oil 'eats' yellow metal, so will destroy the phosphor bronze bushes and other parts in the box.

20/50 engine oil only.

bmcecosse, The standard o/d of the Metro disc is virtually identical to a Midget, that's the only bit that is!. The machining required is to open up the bore so that it fits over the Midget hub, reduce the overall length by about 6mm, and drill/tap 4 holes in the disc to match the Midget hub. My lat...

The Midget-based disc conversion comprises a 'J' shaped bracket that bolts onto the Minor swivel pin, after removing the drum, hub and backplate. The hub is replaced with a standard Midget disc wheel hub (same bearings, fits straight on to the Minor stub axle), complete with standard Midget disc (th...

Jimmy, I have a diagram that I used many years ago on a Willys Jeep to do the same thing. The diagram shows all the terminal number connections and is a simple point to point wirin...

I would disconnect the vacuum pipe and set the timing to the correct static setting. Try it to see if there is any pinking. If there is then retard the timing by 5° and try again, if OK, then advance up gradually until it pinks, and then retard until it doesn't! If a 5° retard does not solve it, I w...

I made up a loom using the original 1958 wires as a base and added the additional circuits that I needed.
