Re: "Gracie" Dove grey 1965 2 door saloon.

So another day of grinding and cutting. I thought long and hard about slicing the top off the new boxing plate in order to make it fit with the remainder of the original boxing plate. In the end I did in order for the new plate to sit in the correct place. Unfortunately I did make a bit of a mistake...

Re: "Gracie" Dove grey 1965 2 door saloon.

As can be seen by the above pictures I have had to chase the rust from the rear going forward. The reasoning behind this was to try and get the panels in the same order as it left the factory, I'm not going down the factory fresh restoration but simply working this way as it's easier to mate panels ...

Re: "Gracie" Dove grey 1965 2 door saloon.

Richard Thanks for the link. I can see how the sill/floor/inner sill go together but the issue I have is being unable to remove the short section at the front of the boxing plate. My query was to enquire if it was safe to cut the end of the boxing panel and weld it to the remaining portion of the of...

Re: "Gracie" Dove grey 1965 2 door saloon.

If anyone fancies looking at the second video and giving me their opinion regarding the boxing panel and how I plan to cut and weld it. Would this be an acceptable way to deal with that issue or would it be considered a bodge? I really don't want to disturb the hinge panel as the majority of it is s...

Re: Spring hanger front corrosion

I'm working on that area of my minor and noticed someone had done the same on mine, unfortunately they plated over the rust which in turn caused more issues.
I would suggest catching the rust now and making sure it has all been eradicated.

Re: holes in rim

As the rim looks to be riveted I wonder if it was a production exercise, form one side of a rim then the other and the two sides were sent to the next person to rivet the rim together in the correct orientation for finalising.

Re: "Gracie" Dove grey 1965 2 door saloon.

So things have progressed a little since my last update. I managed to cut one of the rear wing flanges off and mount the new repair panel but my bolts are in my lock up so had to make do with smaller nuts and bolts to hold the wing to the panel to check for fitment, For a first attempt it doesn't se...

Re: Bodges

Back in the sixties my mate Sam used to buy a car for next to nothing, run it for weeks or months (the better ones) then, when it conked out irretrievably, take it to the local scrappy who gave him either a fiver or a tenner for the remains. Unsurprisingly, he had some 'interesting' vehicles, sever...

Re: Rear inner wing flange removal

Dermot, Looking at your video the repair flange you have looks like it has a lip on the outer edge. Is that correct as the one I have from ESM doesnt have an outer lip. I shall be having a go at mine tomorrow. Richard Hi Richard My repair panels are from Andrew Eggleton, and have both an inner flan...

Re: Bodges

How about seized and leaking front brakes sorted by crimping the front brake pipe shut? This on a Jaguar of all things! Not by me I hasten to add! I actually spoke to a motorcycle rider once who was skidding to a stop at the traffic lights on more than one occasion on his Kawasaki 600. The reason s...

Bodges

I don't mean this to be a list of how to bodge jobs but just a rant at the stupidity of some people. As some of you will be aware ( I will have probably asked some stupid questions) I'm currently renovating a 1965 Morris Minor 2 door but just on this car I have found some horrible bodges such as: De...

Re: Rear inner wing flange removal

Yes the old joint was properly rusted through, I have been told to fit the wing to the flange prior to welding which I intend to do.
Once I'm happy with the fit I will weld the outer flange and then remove the inner flange and reduce the rust trap.
Many thanks.
