Re: Gearbox cross member alignment

The cross member,or at least mine, is helpfully stamped 'front', notwithstanding which I have tried to install it back to front on a couple of occasions........which is impossible, if anyone has achieved this they deserve congratulations for perserverence and brute strength

Re: Mayonnaise

Does your Aldon dizzy have a vacuum advance? It all sounds rather like the advance mechanism ,whatever it is has stopped working . Maybe seized up while at rest in your garage. This would at least explain why advancing it up provided a temporary cure. Cheers John G

Re: Trafficators in use

I notice some moderns have additional flashing indicators incorporated in the side mirrors. presumably this is for the benefit of the idiot sitting in your blind spot where you can't see him/her and he/she can't see your front or back indicators. flashing trafficators would serve the same function. ...

Glad to hear you got it fixed. The Minor has enough problems overcoming its own inertia without adding dragging brakes into the mix!

Also check that the rear cylinders are free to slide in their slots. I have had similar symptoms and that turned out to be the cause, 5 minutes with a file fixed a problem that had persisted for years

Re: Break bleed problem

Did you fit the new slaves with the bleeder to the top? I once went through 3 bottles of fluid trying to bleed calipers that I had swapped side to side resulting in the bleeders being at the bottom. Like you I'd never had a problem previously once the wife was properly trained......

In due course plod intervened ...

Re: Front suspension top links

Thanks again Phil. Now that its the weekend, and armed with your advice, I shall have another play with the front end which at the moment is either squeeking or seems to be locked solid but not both at the same time, hopefully adjustment and lubrication will set it right. Cheers John

before you go give it a decent service and replace all hoses (dont forget the bypass hose),belts, plugs, points and HT leads. Much easier to do at home than by the side of the road in the rain. throw in a couple of screwdrivers, a smallish shifting spanner and some pliers, then relax and enjoy your ...
