'Ere stop hijacking my thread :wink: Thought you might like to know that a replacement coil of the right type solved the problem. Fair point, and one that I have come across before on a VW (no not a Beetle - Perish the thought - YEUGGGH! :oops: :cry: ). However The car was running OK before hand and had never missed a beat. I simply had checked the normal service items and felt replacement was not far away and the best option ...

I would but the screw cap from the coil lead has gone missing.
Cam, I will try by replacing the points. I have a Magnatronic electronic ignition module I could use but I don't know where to connect up the two wires from the sensor.

Wheeee! Here comes a spanner in the works :wink: I've just got rid of a '68 2-door (standard trim not deluxe) that had a ashtray running lengthways along the transmission tunnel just behind the front seats. It was held down with four crosshead screws.

all coiled up!

I have just recently learned there are two types of coil; ballasted and non-ballasted. What's the difference? I moved my coil from 'lying down' to 'stood up' when I fitted an alternator. Am I heading for trouble?
