"Once he's done it will still look the same, except for the position of the gear lever."
...and the type of lever - and the transmission tunnel - and the handbrake lever!

Re: 803cc to 1098cc Swap
The point being missed here is that the OP appears to have all the spares/items readily available to fit the 1098cc engine/gearbox. I'm not missing the point, Phil. I'm well ware of what the OP has and what his proposals are - hence my own comments! At least he will be able to make an informed choi...

Re: 803cc to 1098cc Swap
It would seem a shame to brutally chop the floor of yet another old original. And in addition to Mike's comments, you will need a new carpet to cover the later transmission tunnel! A sympathetic approach would be to amalgamate the 803 and 1098 box so the interior remains original. However, its a bit...

Re: heater dial
Ha ha, 'fug-stirrer' is a colloquial expression used for many years now to describe the old heaters that had no fresh air intake! I don't think BMC ever used it in their advertising blurb!

Re: heater dial
Darren - assuming your 1959 car has the original heater then it will require the brown, round knob (are some black?), which is typical for these round heaters. However, I would ring ESM for advice, as they list a 'long' and a 'short' type........not sure why there is a difference - possibly differen...

'geobernie': "Just ask yourself, would you want to sell a car and then 20 odd years later have some nutter turning up asking questions about what you may or may not have done with/to it?" Why would they be a 'nutter'? In the past I have contacted previous owners of a car and they were most...

Re: fuel pump
Dave - if you gave the pump to someone to refurbish, as opposed to exchange for a good one, that is what they would do. So it would look exactly the same externally but with new internal components (diaphragm, valves, points etc.). But it may not need a complete overhaul - try lightly cleaning the p...

Re: testing fuel pumo
Rather than using a rag, it would be better to use a clean, dry and empty bottle - conventional wisdom says it should pump about a pint of fuel a minute. Then you can pour the fuel back in the tank afterwards 8) If the pump is not working, it may just need the points cleaning or replacing. When a pu...

Re: carpet underfelt
The latex-based felt does claim that the 'latex backing on one side offers a slight moisture barrier....' but, of course, if it is for carpet underlay/sound deadening, this would not be necessary if the car is bone dry internally - no leaks!

Re: If I were you...
Oil pumps can fail. The later oil pumps do not have the woodruff key to secure the rotor to the drive shaft. They are secured to the drive shaft by an interference fit. If the oil is thick say on a cold morning the drive shaft can turn and the rotor stays static resulting in the oil pump failing. I...

Re: If I were you...
Just out of curiosity - are oil pumps prone to failure? I've never had one fail in 37 years of 'minoring' (four different vehicles), although I've had almost everything else go wrong at some point!

Re: Electronic Ignition
The reason some convert to electronic ignition is due to failure of sub-standard components in the points set-up - especially condensors and rotor arms which have had a bad press in the past. I've certainly had a couple of early failures of rotors. Therefore, I suggest you get all your ignition comp...

Post in 'wanted' section of this messageboard and/or ring round the various suppliers - if they haven't new ones, they may have some second-hand ones knocking about. Or try club spares - 'sparesman' has a lot of older Minor spares in his various sheds!
