I have a 1380 with the Toyota 5-spd box. The engine has been on the rolling road and has 95 bhp at the wheels, about 112 at the flywheel. I have a 3.9 diff in a standard Minor casing. With 13" wheels and 185/70 tyres this gives 20 mph/1000 in 5th. I wanted a good combination of performance and ...

The voltage stabiliser gives out around 10v, the battery 12/13v, depending whether it is on or off charge. Running the gauge directly from the battery will produce innacurately high readings.

Can you try another stabiliser?

I would look at the compression ratio. The 12G295 head ran on the 998 Cooper with a raised 'D' section on the pistons. The standard 1098 pistons are dished, so it is likely that you have quite a low CR, when want you want is at least 9.0:1 for any sort of performance. What cranking pressure do you g...

The Minor gearbox is designed to use engine oil. Never use any grade of EP or Hypoid oil, the very components that make it suitable for Extreme Pressure applications will 'eat' parts made of 'yellow' metal, synchro cones, 2nd/3rd gear mainshaft bushes, thrust washers etc. What is wrong with using th...

On the should it/shouldn't it theme, most hydraulic clutches run the thrust bearing in light contact, this is the self-adjustment mechanism. With the Minor mechanical set-up I would not want to have the thrust bearing in contact, even without the return spring, as there is no 'self adjustment' capab...

Suggest you use cupro-nickel (Kunifer) brake tubing. Stronger than copper and does not rust - bit more expensive, but how often do you need to replace them?

I have a Midget 1380 and Toyota 5-spd in our Minor. As part of a gearbox bearing change I decided to fit a ball thrust bearing for the clutch - bad idea!! The Minor has done 120,000+ miles with no thrust bearing problems ever, UNTIL fitting the ball bearing. Almost immediately the pedal trembled as ...
