Re: New Front Brake Drums

No wear ridge chaps, just bits missing from the rim from previous owners using big hammers to get the drums off. I have had the pickup since 1991.The new shoes are ground fit to the new drums so the shoes are only touching at the top and bottom on the old drums as they are bigger dia. They came from...

I have just purchased an axle set of front brake drums with mintex linings and can not get the drums to go on. Upon measuring the new drums they turn out to be 7.950 inches in ternal dia. so I have had to put the old drums back on (they measure 8.010 inches internal dia.) until the shoes wear down a...

Re: Alta Cylinder Head Stolen

I would think it is only worth a couple of quid scrap value, if that was the only thing stolen it is more likely to have been targeted by someone that knew what they were looking at. I would love one myself but as someone else has said "hens teeth and rocking horse droppings" come into it,...

Re: Those dirty electric cars! Pah!

Electric power generated by coal and steam turbines is about 33% thermal efficiency at best. Diesel power with a waste heat recovery boiler can be 90% efficient. They use this system abroad quite a lot, the steam generated is used to heat housing or used on industrial estates etc.Better than wind tu...

Hi, it looks like the top one fits a mid 1951 mm highlight model when they changed the lowlight wings to highlight ones.
you can tell by the sides, they fit the earlier hockey stick chrome trims. Cheers

Hi, you need to hone to take the glaze off the bores as it helps the new rings to bed in, you can do it by hand with emery and a round piece of wood if you want.

Re: Strange engine noise = engine rebuild!!

Hello, a good tip for removing cylinder head studs is to heat them up first with a gas lamp, let them cool off and apply release oil. Reheat again 1/2 hour later then try to extract them a few small taps with a small hammer helps also.2 good steel nuts locked up on each other are better than stilson...

Re: Morris Vedette enigine mechanic needed

on the old lifeboats, the clutch lever used to be on the port side and connected to a lever similar to a mm minor box but beefier. They were quite easy to access, after you split the reduction box off, they had 2 phosper bronze gluts that had to be filed to get the clearance on the collar for revers...

Re: Moggy snow chains...do they exsist?

I have a set of parsons snow chains that came with my 1935 Morris 8.We have used them only twice and in 6 ins snow they work perfectly, but of course when you come off the snow you have to take them off. They make quite a distintive sound on a good road surface. The answer used to be "Town and ...

I sailed with this type of engine when I was with BP.they had them for emergency power, air start compressors and lifeboat engines. they usually had waterproof plug covers on the ignition leads plus a BTH magneto. at least it hasn't got a fan belt to slip !!!! They usually started first time after y...
