Re: Wipers not work
The damaged red wire needs replacing. It is the auto park wire. If this wire touches the body of the motor the wipers will start even with the switch off. Mark the disc section that the wire is connected to in relation to the body as it adjusts the park position. The broken and missing plastic piece...

Re: Wipers not work
Hello Sandun, The wiper motor is wired in an unusual way. The switch is on the earth side of the motor. That earth wire is the black ones that were on the control box E terminal when you had a dynamo. I expect those black wires have lost its connection to the car body. Just earth the black wires to ...

Re: Petrol Tank sender unit
Oliver please try! As I have said there is not enough range in resistance from full to empty. I haven’t got a ford sender to experiment further, sure you could add a resistor in parallel (shunt) with the gauge and it would work but would send more current to the sender unit and most likely over load...

Re: Petrol Tank sender unit
Today I experimented with my fuel gauge and the resistances you quoted for the ford sender. Unfortunately there isn’t enough range of resistance from full to empty. What ever voltage I used as a reference I could only get half scale deflection. 5 Volts with 73 ohms dummy resistor gives a pointer pos...

Re: universal joints
Before you admit defeat. You may not have closed up the yoke by hammering. I would think you’d notice if yoke was closed up by 2mm before fitting the UJ. Check the edges of the circlip recess have no burrs. Fit one circlip first then using a vice and socket push the opposite cup to butt the cup up t...

Re: Petrol Tank sender unit
When I have time ( unless someone beats me to it ) a resistor in parallel should do the job.....Product over sum if I remember correctly? John You would have to add a resistor in series and that still would not work. Adding 160 Ohm in series would give the correct empty but when full may not even r...

Re: Rebuilt fuel pump
Glad you got it sorted. The original diaphragm had an outside layer of clear plastic about the thickness of a supermarket bag bonded to the rubber. I wonder if the new replacements have this feature. May be a case of older is better. A hope the mice haven’t chewed the NOS ex MOD one I bought many ye...

Re: universal joints
You appear to have the correct UJ. To compare sizes you need to push the cups home making sure a needle or two hasn’t popped out and lying across the inside of the cup. The centre cross casting will most likely look different between manufacturers. I’ve Just had a look online at the powerline UJ ima...

It must have taken some time to get that look.
I particularly like the outside of the doors.
I notice it has no MOT and hasn’t had one since digital records began.
It will definitely fail the MOT as it has a lack of rear lights.

Re: Stolen Morris van - Persian blue - signwritten
Hi Chris, that doesn’t surprise me, perhaps if the real owner was to view it as a buyer to confirm it was the stolen van and then contact the police, they might take an interest if you’re lucky. Going off topic but shows what you’re up against. Back in 2015 I had letters addressed to my house for so...

Over 100 views and I guess nobody recognises it, so if it has fallen from your car it may be a bit of packing someone added to stop a rattle or it is from your garage door, trolley jack, barbecue, anybody’s guess. Is it plastic or rubber? I see the beginnings of a new game to rival the Word Associat...

Re: Oil dripping from air filter housing
I thought the restrictor was part of the PCV system but as Berni’s 948cc engine wouldn’t have that system the restrictor must have been more widely used. Thanks Phil, I will reinstate the valve when I get my pickup back on the road.

Re: Oil dripping from air filter housing
Sorry for a metric measurement but a 3mm drill bit fits it perfectly. My engine is the later type that once had the Positive Crankcase Ventilation system fitted but was removed by someone, so not sure it would be of any use if you restrict it. It would most likely start leaking more from the rear cr...

Can’t answer your question, but here is a picture of hose end you described. Brace yourself it is rusty.

Think it's time to buy a rotor arm for your spares drawer (glovebox). It is possibly tracking through to the mounting shaft, insulation braking down. Had a similar problem 30+ years ago. Car started fine but died as soon as I got going on the road, luckily it was a slight incline so just coasted bac...

“Forward thinking” and “Thinking outside the box” are my pet hates. Going back to the Blackbirds. About 8 years ago I found a blackbirds nest had blown out of a bush in the garden. It was a cold wet windy day, unfortunately a chick was left abandoned, I did watch it for over an hour but its parents ...

Re: Help this Electricle part number of S.U
It does look like a disc ceramic capacitor but it is a Metal Oxide Varistor, 18V DC should do the job. It is a resistor that changes value with voltage, high resistance below 18V and low resistance above 18V so would be like a short circuit to the back EMF when the points open helping prevent arcing...
