Re: Exhaust hitting crossmember and rear axle

I would say that half an inch clearance is pretty good. Maybe just fit a stiffer set of hangers, to prevent it bouncing upwards so much...

The round rubbers fit up on the scuttle, to the sides of the bonnet, as shown in this link:

Re: Gearbox woes

Did you ever get to the bottom of this, or did the gearbox quieten down after a few hundred miles?

I have seen instances where a circular weight (like a very thick washer) has been fitted around the gear lever, to act as a harmonic damper.

Re: gearbox numbers

Not sure, but it seems many standard Minor ribcase boxes have MA..... stamps, perhaps standing for Morris/Austin, seeing as they were also fitted to Austin A35s, Austin A40 Farinas and Austin Minor vans? I currently have 5 gearboxes (in various states of completeness!), and they have the following n...

Re: Maestro engine

Bread instead of grease pushed into the spigot bush and hydraulically compressed with a close fitting drift is very good for removing the spigot bearing. Having had a flywheel come loose on a 'A' Series engine I am all to well aware of the damage a loose flywheel can cause. Ah yes, the good old dam...

Re: Green/ brown wire near dynamo

If it is a 1098cc Minor, the solenoid will often have a rubber button on top, which can be pressed firmly to spin the starter (with ignition on).

Or you can run a thick wire direct from battery live to the terminal on the starter motor.

Re: Maestro engine

I'll be very interested to hear your progress on this. How did you find out a Mazda MX5 gearbox can be mated up to it? Re. the spigot, an old trick used to be to fill it with grease then use a suitable size drift hammered in to force the grease underneath it, to create enough hydraulic pressure to f...

Re: Taxing

Initially, I think you have to make DVLA aware of your car's historic vehicle status (particularly if it's been off the road for years), but thereafter they send you a reminder each year and you just fill out the details on their website and within a day or so they usually grant you another year's '...

Aha, sounds like you fitted an MG Midget/Sprite layshaft, which has 13, 19, 23 and 26 teeth and also a differing helix angle compared to the Minor 1098cc one.

Re: Finally got my Traveller back!

Sikkens Microporous coating is very good on the wood, as it allows it to breathe, and lasts for several years, whereas most varnishes, waxes, etc. need to be re-done every year or two. In case you haven't already done so, rust-proof thoroughly and be sure to ensure the drain holes are kept clear, in...

At the same time energy prices are exploding and Western Europe is importing gas from Russia. If Russia is hit with economic sanctions over Ukraine they can simply shut off Europe’s gas. Tell me about it: I just submitted my latest meter readings to Scottish Power's website, which immediately infor...

Does anyone know what became of the Miller Minor? The last I gathered, it was owned by John Lyon of BSM High Performance Course, but I've tried messaging him about it and not received any reply.

Also, JEP 261 now appears on a modern 2019 Range Rover...

Re: New key, new problem.

You could try lubricating it, preferably with graphite powder (ground from pencil lead, say), or maybe a wee squirt of WD40.

Perhaps also try tapping the barrel with a rubber mallet or similar, then waggling the key(s) about in it to hopefully shake the lock cylinders loose again...

I presume this is only really advantageous to use on an A-series without a pre-existing temp sensor drilling in the cylinder head?

Re: 1098 mpg on E5 fuel, what are you getting?

Seconded. Which supercharger setup are you fitting? In my 1275cc MG Midget engined with HIF 44 SU Traveller with standard gearbox & diff, I average around 30-35mpg, probably more on a long steady run, whereas I used to average around 38mpg with the 1098cc. I tried fitting a 3.9:1 diff, but found...
