Quick tart-up of 'Sarah' - 1970 2dr
Unfortunately I seem to have just had 2 projects foisted on me. On Wednesday I took Maggie, my 1969 4dr, for her MOT, which she bombed in mega fashion. More on that in another thread, but suffice to say the bill for having it repaired professionally would run to about £4k, which I do not have. I do,...

Re: buying from ebay
Always remember that despite what some sellers might like to think, if the car is substantially not as described, then you're under no obligation to buy it. Therefore, even if you've won the auction without seeing it, inspect the car to make sure there are no major faults that the seller hasn't ment...

Re: National Rally photos
KIT CAR!!!!! KIT CAR? that's offensive and insulting! there is absolutely nothing KIT about it! "Amateur built vehicle", if you'd prefer. Clearly, the vast majority of the underbody structure of the car is one you yourself have designed and built, rather than the one that came out of the ...

Reluctant to weigh in on this one, but kingzdjc seems to be heavily outnumbered! There has to come a point when something is so heavily modified that it can no longer realistically be regarded as the same article as the original. Once you go as far as removing and replacing in radically different fo...

Re: UK made condensers available again!
I've never had any trouble with the condensors I've purchased from BM & ESM. I have, however, had several dodgy sets of points that seem to drop out of alignment, resulting in poor running.

Re: Devon and Cornwall owners - Dominos
When I lived in Exeter, either that car (or an identical one, can't remember the reg plate) used to drive around delivering pizzas. According to the DVLA, that car is currently taxed until May 2013.

Very nice . I do love the 'flat tracker' look, plus the sound of a nice twin.

Re: Thesis
Or all the Victor Meldrews have frightened him off... There was a short series in Practical Classics magazine a few years ago where they fitted the 'canems' fuel injection system to an A40 Farina. Might be worth seeing if you can get hold of a copy, as IIRC it also included some rolling road tests c...

If you want a truly accurate figure then you also need to find out how fast/slow your odometer is. I recorded my consumption over several thousand miles, and found it to be just over 40mpg (car is a standard 1098).

Re: RIDICULOUS INSURANCE PRICES???
Fortunately I'm about to escape the 'under 25' age bracket, but I agree that prices do seem to be spiralling out of control. From what other people have said, it would appear that prices for a 17 year old have doubled since I started driving - this cannot simply continue. Whether or not the new meas...

Re: no more MOT for pre 60 cars
What a disgrace! The DVLA do seem to have a good line in making up 'laws' that don't exist. One of my cars doesn't have an engine number, as it was removed when the block face was skimmed. Never had trouble getting an MOT, so maybe that's one way to get around all this nonsense.

Re: no more MOT for pre 60 cars
Que? The point was more about the hypothetical case of a car with defective brakes causing an accident, not a comment on their original efficacy! I had to show where my replacement engine came from and was perfectly happy to do so. I also had to have a letter to say it had been installed to a roadwo...

Re: no more MOT for pre 60 cars
100% agreed, however you're assuming that the general public/newspaper campaigns can get their heads around such inconvenient facts! But what is stopping the brakeless A30 running into the bus queue with an MOT? Driving with no brakes is illegal regardless of this new ruling.

Re: no more MOT for pre 60 cars
I'm of two minds on this one really. On the one hand, I'm not much of a fan of regulations, &c., and to be honest the safety aspect doesn't really bother me. However, I already have visions of the baying mob demanding that "something must be done" after a brakeless A30 runs into a bus ...

Nothing "wrong" with adding VAT, but he really needs to say so if selling outside the trade. For an item of that price, it's not insignificant - it adds £115 to the overall amount.
Good to hear he does a good job though.

Little point in changing it, unless it's become noisy. Even then, it's very unlikely to let go - to my knowledge there's only one report of it happening on this board. In the incredibly small offchance that it did, the engine is of the non-interference type, so all that would happen is you'd grind t...

Re: Morris Minor and researching other classics
As a classic to use everyday, the late 1098cc Minor is probably one of the best, along with the MGB, Midget and Mini. Not sure what the insurance situation is with those others, but as already said many classic insurers no longer cover under- 21/25s, as too many have been jumping on the bandwagon of...

Well done on repairing it, rather than taking the 'easy' option of scrapping it and buying another. Hope to see it at the national
