Re: 2 door VAE 306H
Made the megajolt wiring harness wrapped it in clith tape and installed it. rps20210805_224801.jpg Wasn't happy with thf edis module, the wiring is messy and vulnerable. rps20210805_224838.jpg So taking a chunk of old Landrovet I made a bracket to give it a flat surface to mount on and protect / hid...

Also started on the wiring, coil bracket as supplied in kit but painted black and a bolt plate made. rps20210803_153238.jpg Used one if the original felt clip holes and drilled a second then passed the bolt plate up behind the felt with the bolts protruding, bolted the bracket on and temporarily fit...

Re: 2 door VAE 306H
Cut old bolt in half on bandsaw.
2 parts ready to weld.
Clamped in vice and welded.
Trial fit.
I'll probably leave the welds as is, grinding them smooth will only weaken things.

Bolt arrived but still no front cover gasket (coming via royal mail) bolt is ideed 1.5" long and washer is held on by 3 small spot welds so will be easily knocked off. rps20210803_102547.jpg Plan is to cut the already modified original bolt along the line line and weld it to the head of the new...

Re: Quietest exhaust system
it's not the larger bore that makes it noisy its that they usually come with straight through absorption type mufflers, changing the front muffler in the large bore for one with some baffles and/or resonant chambers would make it much quieter.

Yes that's the one scaling off the diameter the shank is around 1 1/2" long which should work fine.

Thats the one I was going to order but they only had the later one with an integral tab washer, I'm sure I can remove that somehow.

Yes I did see those and if all else fails that is what I will use but at the moment I am trying to keep the starting handle (I know a fully mapped digital ignition and a starting handle are polar opposites but it does add another option if all else fails) The mapped ignition also gives you the optio...

Re: Checking anti-freeze
As said above it's no better for cooling (infact slightly worse) so yes it won't boil over or boil locally inside the engine but it should not be getting that hot in the first place anyway. The major benefit is in it's corrosion inhibition properties particularly in mixed metal engines, for that rea...

They are certainly more accountable than bikes. We have the spin ones here in Chelmsford, to get one you have to have a driving licence and provisional licence holders are limited to half the speed of a full licence, they are also continuously tracked so if there is an incident the perpetrator can b...

rps20210731_192604.jpg rps20210731_192643.jpg Some more progress, on the cars today. Cut a piece out of the front crossmember on the minor and welded a depression in as it would have had originally, I missed this when I made it in the first place but it will give a bit more clearance to the trigger...

I was wondering why one of my studs is longer !
I've put it at the front but I don't use the steady with a hydraulic clutch so it won't be a problem for me.

Re: Insuring a grand-daughter for a few days
That might be what they try and tell you but in reality they have a duty to replace at market value, one of the price guides and adverts for similar vehicles usually do it. It also helps to have a wife who is an ex underwritter, It usually goes something like -Call centre opperative tells her loads ...

And E100 in south America. To the question above Fuel cells have 2 issues. 1 cost- most use lots of expensive rare metals though there is work on replacing these with polymers. 2 fuel- they need pure hydrogen which is not widely and carrying your own processing plant around to generate it from other...

Most of the Parts turned up yesterday which enabled me to fit the cam thrust plate and timing gears, with this done I could also look at the trigger wheel. The kit is obviously designed for a A+ and goes across the two holes where I have put the spacer plate provided. Picture won't upload !! You cou...

Fitted the front and back plates, water pump, the cam (held in with 3 washers til I get a new thrust plate) oil pump back plate flywheel and clutch, apart form the sump that is pretty much all I can do on the engine until some more parts turn up. While I am waiting we can start on mounting and wirin...

Pulled the failed engine out today. Came appart easily enough, this what was in the sump. rps20210727_182529.jpg Cam had some damage to the distributor drive and an adjacent lobe but luckily to the edges and away from the lobe itself so we can usè this again. (we won't be fitting a distributor) rps2...
