Re: noise difference
Maybe consider damping out some of the noise. Good underlay and carpets can help, renewing suspension damper oil can smooth the ride out, replacing my old cross-plies with radial tyres improved things a little too. When I removed the bag of mint imperials from the glove box, that made a world of dif...

Re: New Fuel Problem
When has madness ever stopped any Government ? If when William Morris had first entered the fray, My Grandfather was told we would all have motor vehicles one day, he would have laughed his socks off. High Technological solutions always feel like the ultimate at the time. Integrated circuits, pocket...

Re: New Fuel Problem
I am not sure how far we need to look ahead regarding this, not too far when you reach my age. But, the bigger problem will come after 2030. My prediction is, because internal combustion engines are being phased out, the next step will be to tax fossil fuel cars, or fossil fuels to the hilt. If tax ...

I think if a backing plate the same size as the UK number plate was placed behind the U.S. plate in the same colours, that may improve the look a little.

I get the feeling you are already aware fixing the mechanics is a cinch compared to woodwork and body rot, so I think she looks just fine. Personally I love the 1098 engine, good luck with that and well trousered that man.

Re: High-security door locks?
Somebody once said locks are there to keep honest people out. I would use something visible to make entry unattractive. A disk-lock is ideal and don't leave anything of value in the car removing temptation. For someone to enter the car illegally, they are either going to steal the car or something i...

Re: Hello, and advise please.
Your mechanic will want to dump the engine oil, brake fluid and other fluids for new, including petrol. The brake system will need an overhaul. I wonder if the car is already fitted with 8 inch drums on the front to accommodate the 1098 engine. Fitting a brake servo will not improve the braking powe...

Re: Chamois v Microfibre
We shouldn't really use microfibre anythings.................. Every time you wash these synthetic fabrics, millions of microfibers are released into the water. Microfibers are too small to be filtered out by waste treatment plants, so they end up in our waterways and oceans, where they wreak havoc ...

5 years Wallsend Slipway and Engineering Co, then to sea with BP. See the world and get paid for it!! :D Ah, mine was at Haverton Hill/Port Clarence (super tankers) as a mech fitter. Like Phil, I am still using the Britool socket set I bought when I was a marine eng. apprentice in 1955, although a few have been replaced and I am on my 3rd ratchet! It is funny in some respects as Doxford engines are metric sizes for bore and stroke all the nuts and bolts were made in our works a...
