Re: Steering rack withdrawal- which side ?
If your garage is " quite tight " , like mine , I suggest you do the extraction with the car outside. I know the weather is less than predicable but you don't want to get 95% the way through , only to find that It would been easy " with just another 12" / 30 cm of wriggle room &q...

Michiel Thanks for the response. Will await further input / wisdom from others on the Forum.
The quality of work under the bonnet , in " rescuing "your car , is very good. In my West Country
vernacular it's a " proper job " in my opinion. Bob

Michiel I must confess I've never seen any wooden slats like that in a Morris Minor before. I can only assume the writing on one of the slats throws no light on the subject. Where were they , when you bought the car ? Loose in the boot / on the back seat / on the floors. Are there any "witness ...

Chris
Intermotor has been around in Europe and the UK for over 40 years supplying OE quality items.
Add that to ESM's reputation and it's a no brainer for me.£5.90 + VAT and postage and it's still way cheaper.
Personal opinion only , see what others think.
Happy Hew Year all Bob

I'll put you in the " you can't scare me " category of Morris Minor restorers then , if that's alright by you ?
Not a cheque book mechanic who never dirties their hands. Experience is a great teacher.

John Welcome to the Forum, Season's Greetings. Thanks for the piccies , Forumnites love those. It's clear that you have a few issues underneath whilst topside it looks pretty good. The bad news is that you're not likely to crack it before Christmas 2020.The good news is you've caught now , before th...

Re: Removing the bumper nuts - long extension bar?
Wire brush the bolt / nut combo to get rid of as much rust as you can. Apply heat , either a blow torch or boiling water ( lay a few sheets of newspaper underneath the area to prevent splashes and exploding concrete / paving slabs... ask me how I know sometime ).You may need to direct the flow of wa...

Re: Should I replace the whole rear inner wing with repair panel, or smaller custom patch?
My method for this repair was to grind down the spot welds , wire brush the loose rusty exposed metal. Make a cardboard copy of the likely area of metal you'll need to replace. Allow a generous perimeter to allow "wriggle room " to find good solid metal to weld to. Aim for a 90 degree, one...

Re: 17 amp cable for heated rear screen?
Matt , Once you've identified the rating of the Heated rear windscreen it will help you use the correct rated / size of wiring. In turn , given it's likely electrical consumption , you can choose an appropriate relay switch. There are a number options , a straightforward relay , a fused relay , a Ti...

Re: tube nut stuck
John With the tank out and filled with water, I'd try an application of boiling water over the nut , rather than the blow torch. It may need more than one application but I've loosened many a stuck nut / bearing with the method. I easily cracked a paving slab with boiling water first time around , fr...

Martin Good advice from ManyMinors , I'm a fan of Plus Gas too. Other things to consider , if it's a case of " no joy ". Ask a local garage to put an Impact socket on it with their air gun. Once loosened , pop the nut back on it's thread. Do it up hand tight. A smear of vaseline , for lubr...

Re: Ignition light
I'd leave the WD 40 on the bench myself. It's very useful for a lot of things. However it is a bit "sticky" after use.It will therefore attract more dust from the carbon brushes and after a while you'll be back where you started. You want to keep the old varnish on the windings dry. Any pe...

Hi Apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs at any stage. Is the outside of the carb and it's controls clean and lubricated ? Assuming the relatively new jet and needle haven't been dropped or damaged in any way , was the jet centering done at the same time as replacement or more recently ? Was pr...
