My Series MM now has a 948 axle and 8 inch front drums and remember buying new uprights (but not trunions) backplates brake cylinders hubs bearings etc from a main dealer of all places! But to answer your question about bearings fitting the original stub axles I dont think they do.

I have had my Clarke 130 TE Turbo for about 15/16 years with no trouble what so ever (touch wood!) The only part I have replaced is the tips, wire and gas - recommended

Are you still allowed to fix your own punctures? Years ago I used to use a kit by Dunlop to plug a puncture (I still have it!) and on one occasion I had to use 2 plugs in the same hole cause it were that big!

Don't manufacturers supply wheel 'blanks' any more? I know it was a while ago! but my wheels could be supplied blank so they could be drilled to suit.

I have left out the gasket and rely only on the O ring (it works ) as I found that the gasket in the bearing assembly was compressed by the bearing and allowed it to move under load so much so that you would have thought the bearing outer was chrome plated where it had moved about.

I think modern friction materials are just too hard for everyday use (discs and drums) Nowadays it is more common to change the disc/drum where as years ago they would last far longer.
