Re: Engine breathing
Thank you one and all for your instant replies. Me thinks maybe I should leave it as set up. Oil loss is small it's just that it never used to drip at all. Found the breather canister contained a little mayo at the bottom. There was none however in the rocker cover so not too worried. New air filter...

Engine breathing
Hi, Any advise please. I have a 1970 Minor with 1098 engine. It has a cylinder fitted to the front tappet cover which I have just removed to clean and fit new gasket. A rubber hose then goes to the air filter casing but having read various posts and I am not sure this is correct? The rocker cover is...

Re: Cleaning vinyl
Hi, There are lots of threads on the site regarding this but I have found the following works well. Warm water with a generous splash of vanish. Use a nail brush to work it well into the grain then leave for a few moments. Wipe off with a micro fibre cloth and repeat if required. Good luck

Re: What was your first car?
1962 Singer Gazelle. Purchased for £50 in 1968 before passing my test. Clutch was solid and sills gone. New clutch and garage where I worked at weekends did the bodywork. Two tone green and looked fantastic. Passed my test in it even though the glove box lid fell onto the examiners knees during the ...

Dipstick sleeve
Just checked my oil and the sleeve holding the dipstick came up with it out of the block. Does anyone know how this is secured? I don't think it is threaded. Noticed a little oil near by and concerned it may be forcing it's way out. Any thoughts on how to make sure it stays located in the block.

Re: Water from Exhaust
Plan to drive tomorrow again so will check on the water from tail pipe and then look at heater matrix soon as I have more time. Adjusted carb and now running leaner and better so no sooty black with the water.

Re: Water from Exhaust
Well went for a run and not much joy with heater. Valve is working and quite new last year. The in pipe was hot but the return pipe still cold so guess the problem is in the heater it's self. A fun job for a future date. In the mean time should I close off the heater valve or leave open as I have al...

Re: Water from Exhaust
Took for a run to warm up, final adjustment on carb so running evenly. Took rad cap off and heater return hose off copper pipe. When engine revved a little water pumped through, would not say it was a gush so maybe heater is still clogged with muck? Have put back and topped up and will run again to ...

Re: Water from Exhaust
Just to add - have been for a short run, adjusted and now no black soot but still water from exhaust. With water in rad just below neck took cap off and brought up to running temp, there was no stream of bubbles so guess that is a good sign but water rose above overflow. Also noted when out that no ...

Re: Water from Exhaust
You are right I think may be running a bit rich as quite sooty water on start up but exhaust looks normal once warmed up. I will adjust the mixture and go for a run in a day or so when I get a spare hour. I did also have to top up the rad a little which I thought a little strange as always keep it f...

Water from Exhaust
Hi All, Just woken Morris up from 4 weeks sleep. Have changed all the fluids and greased up ready for action. Been out for a 25mile run around. Notice there seems to be quite a lot of water that drips from the exhaust. There is no mayo under the oil filler cap and I see no signs of seepage around th...

Had same issue on last car and cleaned and polished with car wax. Seemed to solve the problem and brought the colour back well.

Re: dry squeek
You are quite correct. The eyebolt bushes are still rubber on the inners of the near side although invoice states 4 were supplied. I was always taught to renew both sides of anything when doing a proper job! A job for the spring I think when the garage is a tad warmer!
