Re: Mechanical problems with removing Dynamo
BMC, thanks for sticking with me and my problems. The charging problem may have been due to one of the brushes being very stiff in its guide. I've bought a set of hub pullers, off fleabay, but will try your bashing suggestion tomorrow. I got the pulley nut off a couple of days ago. I've also identif...

Re: Mechanical problems with removing Dynamo
Did the motor test after seating the brushes with a pointy object. Dynamo ran as a motor for a few moments, gaining speed and then a horrible squealing sound started up (and I had been told the noise was most probably the water pump). Looks like I will have to take the pulley off, after all, as I ha...

Re: Silted up water channels in Engine Block
Hello BMC, I did the wire poking before posting my cry for help. I also used a flat-bladed screwdriver to shovel out the muck from the "drain" hole. Looks like the muck goes around a curve and the wire I'm using isn't following the path (not so much "silt" as "Somme Mud"...

Re: Mechanical problems with removing Dynamo
Hi, I haven't yet managed to get the bolts unscrewed - haven't hit them yet either. If I need to do anything with the commutator, then I will need to remove the pulley. According to an ESM parts catalogue from 2007 (it came with the car and loads of books), the fan belt that was fitted (size 813mm) ...

Re: Mechanical problems with removing Dynamo
Mike, I'm only using my old socket sets and spanners (from the late 60's and early 70's) and they are SAE, Whitworth and AF - I do happen to have some metric spanners (ring, open-ended and ratchet and a couple of small size metric socket sets) and various adjustable open-ended ones as well. Can't fi...

Re: Silted up water channels in Engine Block
Thanks for the reply MarkyB. I did a typo - the acid is known as Hydrochloric Acid and is a de-scaler. Caustic Soda (drain cleaner) is Sodium Hydroxide and produces a load of heat in its cleaning/clearing action (I've got some of that as well). Whatever I try will have to wait until I get the Cylind...

Silted up water channels in Engine Block
Hi there, I've moved my next problem over to here from "Mechanical". When I bought my SII Traveller, I was very pleased with it - thought all I had to do to get it on the road was to sort out the brakes and get the engine running evenly - the project has escalated. [The current engine is a...

Re: Mechanical problems with removing Dynamo
Thanks to MarkyB and Mike for suggesting taking hte belt off before proceeding further. As you can see[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1352638993_17825 [/frame] The Dymano started moving forwards and is now completely off the car[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1352639079_17825 [...

Re: Mechanical problems with removing Dynamo
Thanks for the replies so far. Dynamo not showing any output: I've performed Test 1 in the Lucas "Generator & Control Box" Tests booklet. Result was Zero volts (this was after not getting any sensible readings when trying to adjust the Regulator, as per the standard Workshop Manuals - ...

Mechanical problems with removing Dynamo
Hello Folks, I've tested my dynamo and found it not to be generating any voltage, so I've tried removing it. This is where the mechanical problem has arisen. I seem to vaguely remember (from when I last worked on a Moggy some 30 years ago) that at least one of the three mounting bolts is actually a ...

Re: Split Screen Traveller - new acquisition.
David, Thanks for the reply and the 2 web links to window rubbers. Apologies for the delay in replying. The actual rubber I'm after is the one that goes in the window regulator lift channel - please see the attached picture, which shows my original rusted and fallen off one (fell off as the car was ...

Re: Split Screen Traveller - new acquisition.
Hello MarkyB,
I will be replacing all 6 cylinders, the metal and flexi pipes and I even have a NOS 7/8" bore Lockheed Master cylinder,
just in case, although the existing one was replaced in about 1999, as was virtually the whole floor pan and most
of the members in 2000.
George.

Re: Split Screen Traveller - new acquisition.
Hello Mike and Phil, Thanks for the replies. Mine was first registerd in September 1956. Apparently, it left the UK and was then re-registered in 1963, hence the wrong year-related registration number. Interesingly enough, my 1964 1098cc saloon (with triple spoke steering wheel) did not have a moder...

Split Screen Traveller - new acquisition.
Hello Folks, although I am new to the MMOC and this message board, I'm not new to Moggies. I used to own both a 2-door 1964 Saloon (Series V, I think) and a 1963 Traveller (series 3 - with the "clap hands" wipers). I may well be wrong regarding designations. I was surprised by the number o...
