Re: Air in brake line
Sometimes when a master cylinder is in need of replacement, and the hydraulic cups are worn or you have a pitted barrel it will suck air in on brake pedal return, in from the exposed front. No amount of bleeding will cure that problem. BUT…. very unlikely to occur exactly at the same time as other ...

Re: Remote battery isolator
Yep, there are 30(?) million vehicles out there - the vast majority of which do not have parasitic drains from the battery. Treat the disease, not the symptoms, every time.myoldjalopy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 3:44 pm Agreed. This proposal seems like treating the symptoms, rather than the cause of the issue.

A waste of space? No different to a normal bottle jack unless you buy the one with the larger base and handles. Get a cart jack for the Landy. Much more useful.

Re: Speedometer Compatibility
You may be surprised at the accuracy of the two. Most speedos of that era would read several percent optimistic - and likely were on vehicles using much higher-aspect tyres. Legal requirement is that the speedo must not read low and no more than 10% high (but any errors do not absolve the driver fro...

Re: MM oil filter
‘You pays your money…..’ as they say. Not all filter elements are of the same quality, so your choice. Good quality paper elements are perfectly adequate, but do need changing at the prescribed intervals - as do all filtering media, of course. Oil and filters are generally cheaper than major engine ...

Re: Car losing power….where to start
Quote One thing that I should perhaps have mentioned which has just occurred to me is that when the car was being restarted yesterday on the road I could hear the petrol pump was having to “ multiple click” each time as if it was having to refill the float chamber ….. Unquote That was a serious omis...

Re: Car losing power….where to start
I would start with checks. Colour of spark at the plugs, fuel delivery by the pump, any loose electrical connections. Number three appears to have a compression problem - but not associated with the present problem. Yes, the mixture appears to be too rich, but unlikely to be the cause of this issue....

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
Thanks for the further feedback, Elaine. Some of us are tolerant, and indeed like, the feedback. Take no notice of those that could simply avoid reading the thread, instead of moaning. I recall the last time, dissenters posted similarly, they later claimed they were only joking? Treat them as just t...

Non-destructive check might be remove filler plug and connect a low pressure air supply, to check for a clear route to atmosphere (piece of tissue paper lodged over the breather) ? Don’t try to blow oil past the seals!

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
I expect the term ’choke’ was adopted from the other types of carburettors because it effectively serves the same purpose. Often termed as the ‘strangler’ in the US. Perhaps it should have been named as the ‘fuel enrichener’ or some other such term so as to befuddle people back when the carb was int...
Re: Tyre Wear
Its taken 10 years to wear to this point Now you tell us!. You really mean you have not rotated your wheels in 10 years! As a matter of interest - how many miles has it taken to wear out this tyre? Are the others worn, but more evenly? Is a cheap make that could have had 25% of production below spe...

Re: Lumenition Optronic PMC-50 (positive earth)
How many keep electronic ignition handy if their points fail :D Now, that is a bit daft, Les - but I like the comedy.🙂 I am considering rebuilding my electronic ignition kit (it got scavenged for bits after I bought my first diesel). It only needed one, or maybe two, switches (fairly sure it was on...

Re: Manifold flange thickness
I’ve milled down the thicker to the thickness of the thinner. I’ve added extra gasket material under the thinner item. I’ve made stepped washers with the lathe/milling machine. Never relied on glue as a fix, but if it works, why not, I suppose.

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
Sorry Elaine to hijack your thread. I think that Les had a point....in that the choke cable may be a bit slack; so that you are not getting full choke when you pull the knob out. If that were the case, the choke knob would just be pulled out excessively. The scenario for incomplete choke operation ...

Just one of the joys of classic car ownership I guess.Nice when you are out on the road and then all is forgiven Very true. At least it is a pretty straightforward job on a Morris Minor. It is an absolute nightmare with many modern cars. Hours of work just to get all the stuff off to get to the cyl...

Here you go Bill - earlier in the thread, 'Exasperant' wrote "If you've got the starting handle...." 'Olonas' would prefer "If you have a starting handle...." Relates to the 'Changing Language' thread as well. More likely Bill’s posting where he should’ve written should’ve inste...

Re: Head gasketng of likely problems
Yep seems very odds on a head gasket. A very much outside chance for two adjacent pots having the same pressure and it being valves or piston problems in two pots. What was meant by ‘refurb’? Was the head checked for straightness? Was the head torqued down correctly? Was it re-torqued after the firs...

Somehow I doubt it. But I am a cynic where marketing/advertising is concerned. A pic, mixing mm and cm, simply sounds alarm bells. (14 cm diameter?)
