Re: temp guage

I have a TIM one. Easy to fit. Until recently I thought it wasn't very accurate (70deg when at norm temp). Of course bought a new thermostat recently and temp. is as it should be. Doh! Running 3 years like that. I know it seems obvious but, the previous thermo. was new at the time. I just thought ch...

Re: 1300 head

Haha. Yes sorry, 2.73. It's run the same way for about 18 months from the re-build. Did a compression test probably 6 months ago and no change at 165lb (good oil pressue too) from that new build. It's always been lumpy on idle and I've tried electronic ignition (the cheap one) and then new 45d dissy...

Re: 1300 head

Thanks for the info. chaps. The head is 1.73" thick so, probably ok. The valves and head surface appear in good nick; i'll take the valves out at some point and check them and re-seat.

Re: 1300 head

Not inspected the head thoroughly as yet. But yes the the deck is pocketed and the old gasket looked in good shape. I only drew the conclusion about the possible 'over-skim', as when I fitted the marina head I had to hugely adjust the tappet adjusters to close the gap. Thanks, I will inspect the hea...

1300 head

Just thought I'd share this little bit of nonsense. I have a 1098 engine fitted with a 1300 inch and 3/4 su, big bore exhaust and a Big-valve 1300 metro head. It 'pinks' like a piano no matter where I set the timing (mostly top gear). And so I've just ignored it. Anyhoo, I had a spare standard 1300 ...

Re: MGB + Gearbox into a Morris Traveller

I've seen this done. Don't know the chaps name but fab car (somewhere in Dorset). It was a 1500 'B'series with MGB over-drive. It had a copper exhaust pipe with 'fish-tail' outlet. I asked about the extra weight up front and said it wasn't an issue. I can't remember the full spec but I think the onl...

Re: whats this from?

Wow, that is one chunky monkey. Does that mean (excuse my ignorance) that all the later Minors have Austin derived gear boxes?

Re: will it fit

May I ask on this subject of 'angled' carbs, If you were to fit the later SU 'Hif 38/44' in a horizontal fashion, rather than angled up, would it still work?

okay...well the gearbox is fitted, so it is pretty hard to tell right now about the reverse light switch. the only thing that really made me sure it was, was that it had a hydraulic clutch fitted, and also it was attached to a midget engine, in a minor though! hum...

midget gearbox

hello, just a (hopefully) quick question for you. is it easy to spot the difference between a midget gearbox and the moggy ribbed box? it is just, i bought a gearbox, that was advertised as midget, i have no reason to doubt, but am just curious as they look the same...

3 into 1 downpipe...and the rest??

hello, i just acquired a 3 into 1 exhaust downpipe, problem is trying to find an exhaust that will fit. i am riding on a tight budget, so the new one costing over 160 quid really doesn't sound all that appealing. any ideas as to which car i could "borrow" an exhaust from...your views will ...

Thanks to you all. In messages there is mention of changes to the master cylinder having to be done. One of which is removing the rubber washer. Why is that? Incidentally I have just fitted a reservoir kit and noticed that it comes with a couple of spare rubber washers but there is no mention in the...

thanks simmitc, can i just confirm something. the stub axle, does it NEED to be changed? i am interested, at the moment, in just fitting the ital wheels, and later on, when i have some spare money, getting the pcd changed to take standard moggy wheels. in your part labelled "b" you mention...

ITAL disk brakes

Hi, I am about to fit Ital front suspension arms (with disks) and I've noticed that the upper links and steering arms are different! My question is: can I just swap both the said components over or am i scuppered? The Ital has a ball joint instead and I can only presume that this screws off (hopeful...

differential

Hi, Does anyone have a bearing spacer for the pinion shaft of an 4.2 diff, or know of where I can get one? The part doesn't seem to be listed, so if anyone has one that is second hand, I would be interested. This is not to be confused with the earlier 4.55 spacer, as it has a narrower shaft hole. Da...
