MM gearlever

How does the MM gearlever come out? I removed engine and gearbox today and could not get the lever removed, luckily the gearbox crossmember bolts were easily undone and I was able to drop this down. The gearbox is really heavy compared to the 1000 box. The engine will need repainted and is currently...

Has the car stood for a long time and then been put back on the road? I would agree with Ian s that its probably the master cylinder on the way out. The old rubbers inside can start to brake up after a while and not do there job.

Check the bottom pulley, mine made some strange noises and then disintrigated, lodging a nice big bit into the radiator. Was making the noises for about three weeks before it broke, breaking off at the rivets

I put traveller springs into my saloon and found it sat much too high at the back and made it even bouncier! It sat so high it looked the front had been lowered...... The earlier cars had thinner leaf springs, that why there were 7 of them.

The later cars are much better catered for in the parts line. Most of the service bits can be got at your local motor factors as minis used the same bits. Anything before 1956 has an 803cc engine and is WAY to sloow for daily using, prior to 1952 its a sidevalve and parts are getting hard to come by...

I use my Minor daily and find them very relaible, though Im probably biased as I never owned any other type of car! Probably getting about 35-40ish miles to the gallon. As you say rust is the big problem and for your budget the car will probably need a fair bit of work. Saying that you can sometimes...

Can you recommend a good chromer? I need to get the grill and bumpers done on the lowlight and there arent any chromers left in Northern Ireland. Ive been told of a good one in Barnsley but as yet havent got a phone number.

Think Ive spotted a disabled car on ebay. It has sliding folding seats, plain door panels and rear panels and no over riders.

Yes, you have to have them. They actually hold the cylinder in place as its slides up and down in the grove.

I always use hand signals when Im in a minor with only semaphores, there pretty useless especailly on a two door as there low down. On the traveller I have it set up with a flashing front sidelight, semaphore and a rear orange light all working together. Its pretty easy to set up and is detailed in ...

I recently replaced the one in the lowlight. If you are replacing the pillar or have an old one around, cut about 1 1/2inches off each end and the inside peice and assemble the 2 halves on the bench, then put the rubber on, put in the string and then put it in from the inside of the car. You will ne...

Looks like a lot of work, have you checked out the chassis legs and spring hangers also? Can you do the work yourself or is this your first restoration? All the panels are available, but it can take a lot of time to make them fit precisely. I have found its easier to work on a rusty car that hasnt b...

Stevey, you forgot to mention another Irish film called Mickey bo and me, set in the troubles in the early seventies. Quite a few minors in it but not mine this time! Also your own moment of glory when you spent all day filming for a crimewatch scene, an unsolved case from the seventies. Crimewatch ...

You can use a stop/tail lamp and have a white flasher like the ones fitted in 1962 & 1963. All you need is 2 deep fitting bulb holders and the headlights can be left as is!! I bought a complete lamp, rubber body, chrome ring and white glass new off ebay for £9.00 post included.

From memory there are 2 types, one with a clip that should look fairly obvious sticking out from the bottom of the lock bout 3mm. Just pull this out, carefully and the lever should come out. Stuff a cloth in the door bottom incase you drop it! Think this pin type is in the lock without a key prior t...
