Re: Scrappage scheme
CCW have set up an on-line petition about all this. Seems there are still loads of scrappage cars sitting awaiting the crusher. All totally bonkers unless you are a car manufacturer.

Re: Synthetic oil
I wouldn't use synthetic myself. 20-50 seems to be spot on for A series engines. Enjoy your car!

Does it matter about a few pounds when you can get a better, safer part?

Election 2015
No politics! Just had our first canvasser at the door. He asked what I was concerned about and I thought I'd have some fun...my main concern being the rolling tax exception for Classic Cars and whether they would crush all the old cars stored after the last scrappage scheme. He clearly thought I was...

It would be good to be around and revisit the problem then... I'd be about 105!

Re: doing the distance
The most important thing is belief! Years ago I got anxious about taking the old cars on long runs but I've learned that if they're well cared for it's never a problem. These cars were capable of mega miles from new and with care they just keep on doing what they were built to do...just in their own...

I hope Audi brakes are reliable. There usually seems to be one about six inches off my rear bumper.

Re: Just done compression test
If lack of power is spoiling your enjoyment of your Traveller a solution would be to put a 1275 engine in. Not cheap of course but it transforms the car into a totally practical vehicle that can live happily in modern traffic.

Previous threads here and elsewhere suggest there won't be a consensus on the MOT debate!

Re: Dried on waxoil removal. Help!
Yes, done all that and it's quite hard work. I consoled myself with the thought that without the ancient wax oil there would have been more rust.

Re: Carpet colour question.
I'm not sure what the original spec was, but our '61 smoke grey saloon has light blue carpets and looks really well with them. There is an underlay kit that I fitted years back and it seems to have worked well...reduces noise etc.

There's a good coil article in the May '15 Practical Classics mag.

It's just rubbish isn't it? The pendulum will swing in the future. All this clever computer stuff is ok up to a point but there's a lot to be said for simple. I'm not too bothered about things as basic as electric windows these days... Window winding is quite good exercise!

Re: Bleaching Wood
Interesting this. Our trav wood stayed perfect for several years in a dry, cool garage.2 years ago it had to stand outside through the autumn while we had builders extending the garage (to fit in more old cars!). Some kind of mould got into the wood and although it seems to have done no real harm,and...
Re: Barn Find
I know what you mean,we're just back from staying with friends in Buckinghamshire and watching the Red Kites swooping around their garden was amazing. Never been a 'twitcher' but I could get tempted.
Re: clarkson
That was just about a typical day when I worked for the Coal Board in the 1970's! Apart from the mugging old ladies bit, of course.

Re: Chassis Plate
Quite right,my A30 had lost it's plate and the MOT man said it must have a new one for the next years inspection. Well I got one done & fitted it. The next MOT was a nightmare! The ( different) inspectors obviously suspected the car was dodgy with it's new shiny plate. No amount of history docum...
