Re: Breather Oil Trap
Re the "shiny ali insert" I made that myself. You will not be able to pull a pan scourer or anything else into the can as there are some spring wire clips in there to prevent the filler material being sucked into the engine, those will prevent anything passing through. The only way is to o...

Re: Rust-proofing: Dinitrol or Dynax?
Mine has additional drilled and plugged holes in the A & B posts, and the top of the front chassis legs in the engine bay. Also in the top of the front cross member and the top of the bulkhead cross member. There are also some in the side of the rear chassis legs under the back seat, as Phil say...

Re: oil pump fouling 948cc engine
I am guessing you have a "Mini" specification pump. I had exactly the same problem when I did my rebuild a few months ago. I ended up buying the correct pump for a Minor and now have a perfectly good Mini pump going spare. https://www.mmoc.org.uk/Messageboard/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=72047 ...

You look to be making good progress there. You workshop is also very enviable for the amount of space you have along with the car lift etc. I see you have a Myford Super 7 with the desirable "Industrial Stand" as well...........mine is just the same from when my late father bought it new i...

Re: Rust-proofing: Dinitrol or Dynax?
I did my car with Dynax S50 and used a sealey SG18 gun to apply it. Like most of these products it is fairly thick like treacle and will not spray very well if at all when it is cold, my solution was to have a bucket of very hot water and stand the 5 litre container of S50 in it for a while to warm ...

Re: Water leaks
Here is another little trick you can do that keeps a lot of excess water out of the rear part of the sliding window channels.

Re: Water leaks
Yes, I know what you mean. There is a cavity in the B post wood at the end of the channel, where water can track into the car, the advice is generally to block it up and force the water to go through the drain holes in the waist rails. I think there is a similar cavity in the rear post as well. My T...

Re: Spark Plugs
I once fitted a set of Champion plugs to a Honda 400/4 motorbike I had bought in the early 1980's, I kept the old NGK ones under the seat in the tool tray. One new Champion failed after about five miles so I swapped it for one of the old ones. The following week another one failed so I threw them in...

What if the fuel level was too high in the float chamber ?
That could maybe cause it to escape from the top of the jet when not running.
Probably unlikely but worth checking.

Re: 1098 Gearbox Rebuild
You will more than likely find that the first gear ring is well worn judging by your description of the noise. That was my experience when I did my own recent rebuild. Its not too difficult to do if you follow those instructions. The hardest part was fitting and machining the new tail bushing to siz...

Re: Timing cover leak solution?
Declan I think that modification to the tensioner assembly was done so as to be able to fit it to an engine that does not have the clearance hole for the head of the pin in the front plate. I fitted a duplex kit and chain tensioner on my spare engine rebuild and had to drill the large clearance hole...

Chris was last active on here in 2005, so maybe the rust removal did not go to plan and he sold the car.

As well as my Traveller I have a couple of old motorbikes, one is a 1972 Honda XL250 Motosport that gets used most years (not this one so far though) The other bike is 1950 BSA 350 Gold Star which hardly ever goes out, the last new fuel went in the tank in August 2013. I always start it up and let i...

I wonder what grade of steel these are made from, and if they are heat treated or not ?
They look as though they should be fairly easy to make on the lathe.

Re: Traveller rear door check plate
I was hoping you understood my method in the description, because it will be difficult to get any photo's now until after winter when the car comes out of hibernation. But what I did was use the left hand tie bar on the right hand door and vice versa, if you do that when the door is fully open the l...
