Re: Planning a long trip
Whereabouts in Cornwall are 'ee, Paul? Truro/Falmouth is a bit vague - unless you live on the branch line train!
I'm in Truro itself.
Cheers,
Pete

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
Well, any of that is possible, its hard to know from a distance. On the other hand, these two ladies seem reluctant to actually use the choke (stories about starting up without choke when the car has been "covered in ice", or left out in winter for hours etc.). I have pointed out previousl...

Brilliantly simple solution!
Re: Tyre Wear
I'll get it checked out.....
Tyre Wear
Hello peeps,
I noticed my front O/S (driver's side) tyre is wearing smooth on its outer edge only. All the other tyres look OK. Any thoughts?

Here you go Bill - earlier in the thread, 'Exasperant' wrote "If you've got the starting handle...." 'Olonas' would prefer "If you have a starting handle...."
Relates to the 'Changing Language' thread as well.

Re: changing language
Just seen another one... "how will you business differently?" It's spreading like wild fire. Unfortunately. Of course language changes, it’s alive. If it didn’t you’d be sitting there on your keyboard writing in Norman French. Yes, but there is a difference between language evolving and l...

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
I dunno about a 'fetish' but the guy was clearly trying to have some fun at Chloe's expense - and succeeded. She should have thrown him out of the car as soon as he pushed the choke in - that was plain cheeky. But why were you trying to drive away without choke in winter after 3 1/2 hours stood stil...

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
Guy is a complete ****. If he thought he was being clever then he was the exact opposite. Why would anyone be so stupid? Well, there are a lot of idiots about and Chloe had the misfortune to run into one. Hope all's well again soon.....

Re: 2nd gear crunch
Well, the OP says it only crunches 'on occasion' and we don't know how severe the crunching is, or whether this is a new thing or not. One thing that would be worth doing is checking the clutch pedal free play. Assuming it has its original 948 engine and gearbox, it should be 3/4" free play.

Re: Annual Insurance Fun.
What's going on? I hope these issues don't become more commonplace. When I had to re-insure recently, the broker asked a lot of questions and then balked at the fact that my Minor is my only car (despite me having insured through them for at least 10 years now) and asked my how did I get around - wh...

Re: Dashpot oil
Top up to the top of the narrow section of the dashpot - you will see where it narrows looking in after unscrewing and removing the piston damper. SU make oil for this but ordinary engine oil or 3-in-1 will do the job.

Re: Combining Accuspark and Sparkrite.
How often do the original points fail ? ————very rarely, I submit. When is a Minor not a Minor ? They will fail if they are ignored for a long time. But if checked and maintained periodically, and replaced when they show signs of coming to the end of their working life, then a quality set will not ...

Re: Clearing the block
Thanks Phil. I'll take a look. The job itself can wait until I decide to replace the rattly exhaust, although I've got so used to it now it hardly bothers me  Its possible the cup washers are present as the engine was re-conditioned by a local firm about 16 years ago. 'Ave 'ee got any Tribute i...

Re: Clearing the block
Hello Phil. Surely the existing cup washers can be re-used?
And so: bolt head, fibre washer, cup washer and then neoprene seal before the covers?
