Get the timing marks lined up and then paint new marks on the timing chain cover and crankshaft pulley rim. There is no need to go overboard on the timing marks.

If you want the 'A' Series block internals and the sump to be clean use a high detergent diesel engine oil.
The engine and sump will be clean but the engine oil filter will need changing more regularly.

The diff ratio is stamped on the top of the rear axle diff housing i.e. 9/38 which equates to a 4.222 to 1 diff ratio.

The only indicator I can give you is look for wear on the drive splines. The wear will take place on the rear drive face of the spline. Whilst I have not fitted a 'O' Series to a Minor I did have a Morris Ital estate fitted with a 1.7 'O' Series engine and I was not impressed with the engine or performance.
Nowhere as good as my previous Morris Marina estate fitted with the 1.8 'B' Series engine.

It may not be able to go anywhere but it could cause a lot of expensive damage if the spring came adrift.
