One point that came to mind - has this carb been in use before? Yes, and it has previously run perfectly well. And - is there definitely a spring inside the carb - above the piston ? It does sound like it's going very weak on acceleration - missing (or weak) spring may give that effect. Yes, there ...

I've booked this saturday to work on my car :-)

Sounds like much too weak mixture - try richening up the idle setting a bit -it's almost impossible to have 'too rich' on acceleration, it just wastes fuel, but runs fine. OK, I'll give that a go. What needle is in the carb ? No idea. It's got filing marks on it though, and when I say that I mean t...

Bad running with some throttle - ideas?

The trav isn't running right: It idles very nicely and drives perfectly well on a light throttle, but as soon as you put your foot down it goes wrong. There is a massive increase in exhaust noise accompanied by some stuttering and very poor/zero acceleration. When cold, the engine dies completely wh...

Re: Installing a wood burning stove

One HETAS engineer [who'd never heard of MICA for the stove windows] said that's impossible to do. He gave a rough quote to line the chimney: call out to quote £50+vat [to be refunded if they do the work] and around £400 for the installation.......OUCH That quote sounds about right - we were quoted...

Sounds fine to me.

Matt, did you find the cable bracket for the HIF44? I mean the flat bit that both holds the cable and shields the float bowl.

Paulk, check your email...

A reply (finally) from the relevant ministry: ---------------------------------------------- There are no specific requirements as such in the Construction and Use Regulations for the position (or size) of the exhaust pipe on a vehicle. In return I have a Mini LCB with which you can...

You could use another armature - it doesn't specifically have to be the keeper ring, just some steel.

Or do you have any contact that could machine something for you? The keeper ring is just a piece of mild steel the same diameter and width as the armature and about 2cm wall thickness.

I've got my exhaust and it looks pretty straightforward to fit. I need about a 30° bend, but apart from that it looks good. Full speed ahead.

While not desirable, if tyre wear isn't uneven, and if the error is say only 1 degree I would leave well alone. Tyre wear is uneven, with the outer shoulder of the offside tyre wearing very significantly more. The nearside tyre is wearing evenly across the tread, so I don't think it's hard cornerin...

Jim if your front wheels are currently displaying a different static attitude and you apply more spacers to one eyebolt don't forget to check the wheel to car centreline as you may end up with even worse handling. Fair point. Obviously, there's a significant difficulty in moving wheels in or out wi...

I'm also beginning to wonder why I bother with this Forum. In any forum, net-based or otherwise, there are those who will hold their own position and will disregard any evidence that contradicts it. It's like that now, it was like that on USENET in the eighties and I suspect it was like that in the...

Interesting, I had my first experience of changing the standard type oil filter yesterday (Sarah has always had a spin-off one) and would now definitely say that a spin-off conversion is the most worthwhile modification you can do to a Minor. I'd say an extra gear in the box is the best change you ...

Surely the camber is controlled by the length of the bottom arm/the length of the shock absorber arm Yes, and that's what I propose to do; effectively change the bottom arm length by moving the pivot outboard. packing washers behind the trailing arm will mainly alter the castor angle? You're right,...

if they are in a classic car then its 5 quid for the car for one day with up to 2 people and children seem to be 1 quid each It says children are £2 in two places and £1 in one place, so I'm going with the £2... and there is a lot to see and do so it represents better value than things like the MMO...
