Re: Head is off - bore maintenance?

Thanks for your prompt replies.
I have a feeling that deglazing is only done when new rings are being fitted, but I will wait for the experts to comment.

Head is off - bore maintenance?

Hi engine experts -- a question for you. I have the head off to rectify a head gasket failure (water leaking into a cylinder). Before putting it back on, I am wondering if there is any maintenance I can do on the bores. I don't want to drop the sump. The bores look to be in good condition and there ...

Re: Tank sender unit

My understanding is that you will need to change the fuel gauge for the later type too. Your existing one will not read anywhere near correctly with the later sender.

Thanks Mike
I was wondering whether it would be a bad move to omit the seals altogether. So now I have an answer based on experience.

Re: Valve stem oil seals

Thank you for your helpful replies. It is pretty much as I expected. I really have to install grooved inlet valve guides and top hat seals if I want to do it properly. I am trying to avoid replacing the guides because I don't have the reamer and seat cutter that are needed to do the job properly. An...

Valve stem oil seals

I have a quandry... I have the head off my 948cc Minor to replace a failed head gasket. I am almost ready to put the head back on but I thought I should grind the valves first. This raises the old chestnut of what to do about the valve stem seals. At this time, I would prefer to avoid upgrading the ...

If you search on here, you will find information from others who have fitted Ka seats, including the modifications to the mounting points required.

Re: mirrors

Maybe you don't have it fitted or adjusted correctly? I have absolutely no problem at all with my Lucas type mirrors and have an excellent view in both of them. The van and pick-up are a different thing because of the width of the rear body, so I understand the need for a longer mirror arm but for ...

Re: mirrors

the near side one, I can't get it in the right place I had that problem with my lucas-style nearside mirror that is fitted to the triangle at the leading edge of the window. I fixed it by making a resin wedge that fits under the mounting face of the arm. It gets the arm to the right angle. The wedg...

Re: Shock absorbers - front

Do not overfill the dampers. There must be an air gap under the cap to allow for fluid expansion.

Hi and Welcome :D

There are some threads on this site detailing excellent full restorations. You might have to go back quite a few years to see some, but they are well worth the search. I am sure you find them helpful.

Are you happy with your moisture testers? For example, can they show a clear difference between old and fresh brake fluid?

Re: Length of damper link

Thank you very much for your replies. Its a bit of a mystery. From your helpful replies, it looks like the old/shorter ones are correct original fitments. However, the part number stamped one does not agree with the factory parts list or the Moss data. I guess we will go ahead an fit the new, longer...

Length of damper link

A friend is replacing worn links for the rear dampers on his '56 Traveller. When comparing the new links with the ones he removed, he found that the old ones are significantly shorter than the replacement parts (which he is confident are the correct parts for a Minor). The old links are about 160mm ...

Some of the decline in new topics and new posts would be from the passing of Roy (bmcecosse). For those who don't know of him, he has thousands of posts on this site and on several others too. He also provoked many responses with his tendency to enjoy a squabble. What a character! And a knowl...

Re: Forum Activity

I too avoid FB. I haven't used it for many years because I am concerned that its operators don't do enough to minimise its damaging effects. I note that Many other Minor messageboards are now all but dead. Regrettably, if the MMOC messageboard continues to fade I will have to give up my stand agains...
