Re: DATE FOR YOUR CALENDER - 5th November Footman James Open Day

Being local, I could show my face. Though not during the day particularly. I have this thing called a job

Re: Wanted - short bonnet side trims

Indeed, cutting a normal one down would leave an open end.

Repro ones are made from steel though, so you could cut one of them down and weld an end plate on?

Re: rear tyre width

Is that 22% just the increase in CSA? Because surely the addition of material to the outside is more effective that the neutral material in the centre? I've fitted SPAX dampers all round, but raised the front slightly at the same time. Not had a problems bottoming since, but wouldn't mind going back...

SAE20 oil originally. But SAE30 is a good improvement.

Don't just top up - flush through several times.

Re: rear tyre width

I believe standard Minor torsion bars at 3/4 diameter. So 19mm. Your 21mm sounds reasonable. I'm aware that 'uprated' torsion bars are available, but their uprated-ness is given as a percentage. It wouldn't be impossible to get a supplier to measure them. Something I'm considering for Bluey to reduc...

And 1 to tell you how he used to change a lightbulb in 2.6 seconds at the side of the road. But how it's 'never' the lightbulb anyway.

Re: Classic car magnetism?

I find the opposite. Don't drive a bit faster... keep slowing down! The whole reason they're tailgating you is that they want you to go faster. And if you do, you're just teaching them that their plan worked. Slow down, and they'll perhaps learn that if they'd kept their distance they'd have got whe...

Re: rear tyre width

I've had 185 tyres on 5.5j rims on my Minor for years. It's best not to go much wider unless you want them poking out of the wings. And if they poke out of the wings you can't cut much off the bump stops as the tyres will hit the wings on full compression! 185s are a bit wide for 5.5j. You could go ...

Re: car description???

They're usually some amalgamation of engine size, number of cylinders, and/or engine power. So 13/60 could be a 1.3 engine with 60bhp. Wolseleys have models '6/90' and '6/110'. Those perhaps being 6 cylinders, with 90 and 110bhp respectively. More modern cars, do similar things too. A Mercedes C220 ...

Re: Air/Fuel Ratio Variable

Certainly sounds like it could be the wrong needle in your carb. The ideal A/F ratio is 14.7:1. But I've no experience of what you'd actually get in the real world. Get the right needle and see what effect it has on your readings! Out of interest, where did you get this sensor kit, and how much was ...

Re: High mpg

30 miles to £10 is a bit awful! £10 will buy you about 1.5 gal, so that's 20mpg! I've got a 1 1/2" carb, LCB, large bore system and something akin to a cherry bomb on the back. I get 40mpg if I can resist the urge to use the extra power. You're either running very rich, or the carb you've fitte...

Re: Boris 1964 2 door saloon

It's not ideal, but you CAN cut round washers into a C shape. Then you can loosen the eyebolt nut, lever the bar away from the chassis leg, and pop them in. Not need to remove anything else at all! Cover them in plenty of grease though, as the cut-out could trap water, and allow it to get into the '...

Indeed, the little black switch below is just an over-ride for the panel lights.

Dip switch is a big silver button by the clutch pedal on the floor.

I am well aware of your situation cyclomethicone. Having just got the car, and having found a few major and minor issues with it, it can be depressing to think about all the necessary stuff to do. It's quite nice, and healthy, to think about things to do for yourself. It's good to think about what y...

Re: New Stearing wheel

I've got a 14 inch mountney on my minor. Was worried it'd be too small, but I cope with having 185 tyres on the front. Was a little harder to do more complex parking manouvres, but not bad enough to warrant changing the wheel back! It's so much easier to get in and out of the car as there's room for...
