Re: Dynamo Failure
It is not the control regulator box unfortunately, ive attacked it with all ive got and its freeing off happily. Furthermore, the car will not start AT ALL now, so I'm getting a little concerned something disasterous has happened. Can anyone give me instructions on how to set static timing, not word...

Re: Dynamo Failure
It flicked on as i came to the end of the journey, but the engine was still running. I cannot get the engine started now. It turns over no problem at all but splutters a little then dies. Pulling out the choke seems to drown the engine. Leaning the mixture also seems to make it worse, so the fuel si...

Re: Dynamo Failure
It would seem so! Ill check it out tomorrow morning and will report back. Would this explain why the car has been very reluctant to start lately, and is running VERY roughly?
Kind regards,

Re: Dynamo Failure
Hi Everyone, Busy day in work today but the points are something i had completely forgotten about. Whilst I appreciate the suggestion of upgrading to the dynamo, money is a little tight at the moment so its something I think I'm going to try to repair rather than purchase. If anyone has a spare dyna...

Dynamo Failure
Hi There,
On arriving home this evening my ignition light has come on. Is there anything besides leads being connected and fan belt that I should check before coming to the conclusion that the dynamo has given up and is no longer charging the battery?
Thank-you!

Re: M20 Crash
this was my mums car that i was driving in with my (now ex) girlfriend at the time. the rear axel is bent, and i believe it is too far gone to repair, along with the costs etc. the roof cannot be pushed out, and replacing it would change the structural integrity of the car. I thought i saw something...

Re: Severe Oil Leak, Help Please asap
Okay, after looking at it up on the ramp, its over pressurising, and chucking it out the back via the main bearings... drilled two holes in the oil filler cap for more breathability and has improved slightly. Think the engine is just KNACKERED :L

Re: Severe Oil Leak, Help Please asap
Thanks for your help guys, no smoke in either of those instances, so im pretty sure its a leak not a burn... really quite worried, did 30 miles today between 20 and 40mph, and theres 3 hand sized puddles under the engine now :/ im possibly taking the engine out and inspecting the oil thrower?

Re: Severe Oil Leak, Help Please asap
After it ran for about 20 minutes i revved it HARD, foot to the floor and it smoked slightly, very very pale blue, but just one plummb of smoke and nothing more, i believe to just be oil thats escaped past the piston rings and sitting on top of the pistons?

Severe Oil Leak, Help Please asap
Hi there everyone, I have now owned penny for 18 months and lately have noticed severe oil loss... Started after i went from Maidstone to Whitby and back in 2 days and its got progressively worse since. I travel between 55 and 65 mph on average. Ive cleaned up the engine and the oil appears to be dr...

Gearbox Filler Plug
Hi there, on topping up my gearbox the other day, i noticed that the plug doesnt go back in straight, infact, its stripped the thread on the gearbox casing completely on one side, but it seems to be just cross threaded on the other. It will screw in tight, but i do appear to be getting moderate pudd...

Re: advice on tyres Margate
ahhh this is finally something I can give advice on! :D The cars were orginally sold with 145s, but the vans started to have 155s and the handling was reportedly better, the steering is LIGHTER with 155s on the front, when stationary, but lighter when moving. This is due to the weight of the engine ...

Misfiring at Tickover
Hi there, just fitted a new unleaded head and for a while it stopped the problems of my car misfiring on cylinder 3 (second back from the battery), as it had always done this. i was really happy. However, its started to do it again, as soon as a little bit of power is put through the car the misfire...

Re: Barn find (1951 Low light) - do I restore?
To be honest, £50, if you sold it on youd be laughing... Although thats a little unethical. All i can recommend is that you go for an onsite visit and give the underside a few good whacks. If it literally drops rust everywhere then youve got problems. It looks very dry in there tbh (the formation of...

Re: Highest Mileage Ever?
Penny has had a second hand diff put in because as you back off doing over 40mph, the whole car juddered and grumbled. Turns out the bearings were COMPLETELY shot, you could move it about 5mm in each direction with your hand. the diff is lovely now (a very much appreciated donation from one of my fr...
