Re: We've done this before but....
Fingolfin Stay positive - there is always someone worse off than you no matter how bad it gets. You may not have any one else Minor wise in your local area but the internet has made the world so much smaller - so much that you may as well be next door. Therefore you are never far from a friendly Min...

Re: Original Engine Number
It has to be remembered that the Gold Seal engine fitted has its own history and is part of the cars overall history. Therefore personally I would be reluctant to try and rewrite history. Fitting a new engine serial number plate with the original engine number does not automatically make the Gold Se...

Re: Can you ID a cable please
The gearbox floor cover (possibly fiberglass) for the Ford (or other) gearbox conversion does not require the access hole in the floor plate to be in the same place as the Minor because the Ford (or other) filler/level plug is in a different position/place. Therefore the access hole is not incorpora...

The viewing figures (9 registered and 95 guests) posted at the bottom of the Board Index Page as I am writing this show a healthy interest in the sit...

Re: Original Engine Number
Can you please enlarge on what you mean by type? For the 948cc engine there were only high or low compression types of engine. Only the later engines had variances in type relating to other issues - for example sealed breathing system. According to the BMC code the second letter 'A' indicated automa...

Re: Cylinder block drain tap
You may not have a drain tap but you will have a block drain facility which may be sealed instead by a drain plug. It is located R/H rear of engine about halfway down the block. Item No: 29 in the attached link................Pt No: 53K2853. https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/morris/minor/e...

Re: Transition heater trunking ?
Looking at the workshop manual section for the round heater there is no ability shown to stop air going to the demisters pipes whether it has the fresh air duct or not. I cannot remember that inability being a problem and I do feel the cold. The later heaters had the ability to select CAR, WINDSCREE...

Looking at and following both the MO & MMOC web sites they both have their rushes of activity and both have their times of inactivity.

Re: Transition heater trunking ?
Full details of fitting the fresh air heater shown in the 'e' bay link above are given in the BMC workshop manual Section SS.3 The details cover the fitment of the fresh air heater conversion kit Pt No: 8G9046 (which is basically a kit of parts as per the 'e' bay link) to the Morris Minor Ser 11 and...

Re: Can you ID a cable please
If the car has a five speed gearbox I suspect that the gearbox fitted is a Ford Type 9 gearbox. The Type 9 is the five speed gearbox conversion being advocated these days. Other five speed boxes have been used, sourced in the main from Japanese vehicles.

Re: How to weld Aluminum
You can weld alloy with oxy-acetylene welding equipment. You do need to have the right welding rods, the right flux and be careful of the heat. Been there done that. As regards the problem with the thermostat housing in question - it is a poor quality alloy as regards welding, therefore I would agre...

Re: windscreen fitting
When I came to fit the laminated windscreen to my Minor and after several frustrating tries I decided to get a main stream windscreen company to fit it. They made it look so simple, the job was done in no time and the cost was negligible. Saved my nerves and the thought of a cracked laminated windsc...

Re: Can you ID a cable please
The cables in question look to be the spare cables from when the alternator was fitted. More importantly your electrical wiring needs to be tided up urgently especially the main positive feed cable area - if you do not tidy it up you are at risk of having a short circuit and the car going up in flam...

Re: Clutch replacement
Rob Even if the story is true there is insufficient room around the bell housing and transmission tunnel to remove or fit the gearbox from below whilst leaving the engine in place - therefore the engine has to be removed to get access to the clutch. Even fitting the engine from below is difficult if...

My old Rover 220GSI was entered at Prescott when fitted with a tow bar. It was once used during the lunch break to move my neighbours (who was also entered) Jedi which had problems out of the paddock in the trailer pod. It seemed strange seeing the Rover one minute with a trailer on the back and the...

Re: bypass hose - again (or not)
https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/adaptor-bypass-hose-cylinder-head-12a2075.html?assoc=136575 The bypass hose adapter just screws into the head. It can be a bit of a devil to remove. One way to remove the old adapter is to drill out just short of the threads and then uncoil the remains of the adapter. M...
