Re: Brakes again
Minors with standard brakes can be notoriously difficult to bleed. Try bleeding the system again, this time Jack the rear axle up and support it when you bleed the rear two corners, then set the rear on the ground, Jack up and support the front (axle stands) when you bleed the front brakes. This wil...

Re: Restarting a laid up Traveller
A quick squirt of WD won't do any harm BMC and may loosen any slight surface corrosion.
Or you can use Red ex.
It will burn off a lot easier than engine oil.
Btw, once engine has warmed ( check coolant level as well) of course you will be changing oil and filter before driving the car any distance!

Re: Restarting a laid up Traveller
And the wiper failure may be due to a siezed wheel box rather than a motor failure.

Re: Restarting a laid up Traveller
First thing, is take the spark plugs out (number the leads so they go back correctly!) and squirt WD40 down the bores. Let it soak for a while then using the starting handle, gently try and turn the engine over. If she turns over then clean the plugs, clean the points, check oil level etc. Put some ...

Re: underbody protection?
If the car will be used in the wet in Britian and in the winter, then water and salt will creep behind any protection. That is when you need to apply underbody wax each year such as Dinitrol 4951. But this is getting away from the original posters question who wants to protect their car and yet have...

Re: underbody protection?
Apply seam sealer to the seams/ joints, apply smooth coats of stone chip, prime and paint the grey over this. Cavity wax inside all box sections as Minors rust from the inside out.

Its not so bad! I work on classic cars and drive wedding cars as my businesses. The Landy owner has a wedding car company that gets me and Dibble (convertible) lots of weddings. At least a Land Rover should be easy to work on!amgrave wrote:ha ha, volunteers one step forward.

Thanks for that! I've now got the job of trying that to improve the steering.

Re: Anyone else own a Land rover
This particular 1968 series II a wandered about on the motorway at 50mph. I had to constantly steer to keep it in line, does this mean the steering box needs adjusting???

Re: bubble master cylinder jar (new one)
The problem here is that the Minor fluid reservoir is very low down compared to most cars so does not benefit from the hydraulic pressure from the gravity head present in a remote reservoir system pushing air bubbles out. So we have to try a different tactic. Try jacking up the rear as high as possi...

There is supposed to be some padding strips between the roof spars and the aluminium roof. Use upholstery glue to stick them in place.

Re: Flexible (?) filler for after welding?
Yes, prime the areas, including any pits with a good anti rust primer then apply brushable seam sealer to seal any welds and seams. Good work on the repair by the way! Although, the ultimate in avoiding getting any water into your welds is to butt weld. The over lap you have there is in a vulnerable...

Re: moggy growling
"growling" could be the bendix stuck. Remove starter motor (only two 9/16 nuts and bolts and one 7/16 for the feed from the solenoid.) Clean bendix (bit on the end of the spiral coarse thread- it should move) with a solvent and get it moving, lubricate with pencil `'lead`'. re fit and car ...

Re: Supermarket petrol.
Yes, it is true, all the petrol supplies come from the same refineries these days. However, to avoid problems such as water (which comes with ethanol) avoid ethanol petrol, many Super unleaded supplies are still ethanol free , fill up with super not normal unleaded.
