Dampers and front suspension

How I missed this one on Maisie I have no idea, thought i had been over it really well. Noticed the other night that one of the bolts was missing from the NS front damper, the one at the bottom by the inner wing. No problem thinks me, just more poor mechanics on the car of which I have found plenty,...

Re: quarter light glass and frame

That was easily;y done in the end, took the quarterlight out and into a bucket of water for a couple of hours while doing something else, some careful wiggling of the glass and frame and out it came. Decided that doing it on the lawn was the best bet, glass stood a chance of bouncing should somethin...

quarter light glass and frame

I have just fitted new seals into the door frames on the car, as the old ones were rotten to say the least. The passenger side one is hitting the vertical frame at the top when closing, it looks as if the glass is not in the frame properly. ESM list a rubber for this, but I need to coax the glass ou...

So who was it.....

Run the other half into town this morning in Maisie, and passed a couple of moghoes and some other classics. Heading into Frinton on Sea, from Kibty Cross, Essex we pass a black split screen and a white convertible, obligatory wave and toot. Also in the line was a cream Jaguar/Daimler and a red MGB,...

Steering wheel refurb

My steering wheel - 1966 later type is looking quite tatty, seems to have grey flecks where hands naturally rest, so presume a coating is worn off here. I did have a bash and see if T cut would improve it, just in case said grey flecks were over spray or something, made no real difference. Are there...

Re: wiper motor disassembly

Hopefully you have the wiper motor done by now, easy to strip, clean and re grease. My handbrake button did that, it's threaded onto the rod that goes down the middle of the lever. The thread I think had become worn on mine, get some araldite and coax some into the button, and then refit it, a screw...

Re: Temperature gauge

Yes, my conclusion was that to, after faffing around with the sender. Pulled the thermostat out, which looked to be new(ish) but also looked a bit twisted, marked as 82 deg. Tried it in a pan of water out of curiosity and it seemed to test OK, but did look marginally open with the twist in it. Anywa...

Re: Temperature gauge

New sender turned up today, and decided for some science in the kitchen, with the kettle and a cooking thermometer. Put the sensor and thermometer into the kettle suspended in the water, and slowly heated it up, gauge all powered up, 90 deg and the gauge is on the N mark. So my gauge a sender combin...

Re: Temperature gauge

Done a bit more digging and a gtr101 temp senosor spec is approx 50 ohms at 90 deg c. Popped the gauge out the car, only sitting in the drivers glovebox untili sort a panel out for it, put it on a bench power supply set for 10 volts with a 50 ohm resistor and the gauge moves right onto the N, smack ...

Re: Drivers door handle removal

Well I did the job this afternoon, everything came undone OK. The two nuts under the quarter light are fiddly to say the least. I couldn't find a 7/16 box spanner, the studs are quite long and my small quarter drive set just on the limits of socket depth. However there's room to get a 1/2 drive deep...

Temperature gauge

I added a temp gauge to the car, all wired in correctly. The gauge is good, not sure what it came out of but it is a Smiths gauge that to me would have been in a Mini, not sure what else they were used in. It the C - N - H style. Sender is in the head, I was given this with another purchase on ebay,...

Re: Drivers door handle removal

Thanks all for the replies. I think general consensus is that the window frame has to come off. The car has been apart in the last few years when it was rebuilt, so hopefully everything will come undone without any drama. If any of the nut/bolts are tight I will coax them out with normal methods. Ma...

Drivers door handle removal

I need to get the entire drivers door handle out of Maisie (2dr), the current one is badly worn, the actual lock plunger has a groove worn through it from the striker and the handle must have about 1/2" of up down movement in it as the handle/pivot pin must be worn. So a handle complete purchas...

Re: Maintaining and owning a Morris Minor

I can only second what a great car the Minor is and what you will learn from it. I started with a Morris Marina at 17 which I still think was a great car, we did thousands of miles and it was reliable. My car skills were mainly learnt on that, and it stood me very well for a Minor, then moving on to...

Re: Sill kick / cover plates

Well, took a back pedal on that plan, having major trouble getting the drivers door to stay shut, and concluded that the plate sitting proud and up was not helping matters. Whizzed it off, three self tappers and now I have a drivers door that stays shut and not springing onto the safety all the time...

Re: Sill kick / cover plates

Brilliant thanks for that, now I know what to achieve. I shall wait until the dinitrol session, see if there are any existing holes and if so drill the cover to suit, if not I can sort my own.

Re: Sill kick / cover plates

Where do the screws actually go, I have seen them on other cars but have not paid too much attention. I am presuming on my car there will be no holes for them to go into as that's all new metal. I can understand why they have been left off but the plates do need securing down at the top. Some nice s...

Re: GWX850J for sale on ebay

Yes strange indeed, bloody criminal whats been done to that car. I thought a very late Minor, probably should be a good one and stands the best of chance of being decent, went up there armed with means of buying it, had it have just needed a respray I would have taken it on for the right price. Wasn...

Re: GWX850J for sale on ebay

Odd, can't find it on ebay now, I was sitting in my car between jobs yesterday having lunch and flicking through on my phone as you do, it had about 4 days to run. This is the car on the car and classic website, looks a nice car until you start getting close to it, and sure it could still be a nice ...
