Running Hot when Stationary

The recent spell of decent weather has brought on both an increase in use of our Morris Minor, but also a potentially new problem. Stuck in traffic after a longish drive, the temperature gauge started creeping up. At around half-way between N and H, the car started running lumpy and then eventually ...

Re: MMOC National Rally 2017

Aha! We're hoping to go, but still have some items in the diary we need to clear out first. Is not-booking and just paying on the day an acceptable option then?

Re: MM Boot Handle

Yes, captive nuts so the external screws CAN just be unscrewed, but the originals had a large headed screw in the end of the square shaft so you couldn't just pull it out and the screwed on casting has lugs on the side so it cannot be turned, even if unscrewed. Ah! That explains it! Thank you.

MM Boot Handle

As long as we've owned our '53 MM, the boot handle hasn't worked properly. One lazy afternoon, I ordered myself a new assembly and finally thought I'd have a go at fitting it today. I really should have checked before, but today I discovered that the existing handle on the car is actually a later ty...

2017 Miglia Quadrato (London)

Wondered if this might be of interest to any of the London / South East members... The 2017 Miglia Quadrato (Treasure Hunt) takes place in the City of London during the night of the 20th/21st May. This always promises to be an excellent event for both first time and experienced treasure hunters alik...

Series MM Speedo Cable?

Hello, Now we're safely back from MoT, I've gained a long list of things to fettle with or fix on the car. Top of the list is addressing why the speedometer is not currently working. The odometer incremented by 100 miles on our journey of around 50 miles to Portsmouth and the speedo needle just flai...

Miglia Quadrato (London)

Hello All, Wondered whether this might be of any interest to anyone.. Every year, the University of London and United Hospitals motor club organises an overnight treasure hunt within the City of London. This years event will begin at midnight on Saturday 7th May and I suspect will finish around 7am ...

Re: Car Cover

What was the problem you had with the stormforce? I've been really pleased with mine.. Whilst we had scaffolding up on the house, the Minor was kept outside over winter. Even in the thickest frost, the car remained dry and relatively warm underneath. Now I've got access to the garage back, I'm still...

Re: What do you guys think of this 1.8?

We recently purchased a Series MM with a 1098 engine which was still recorded as having the original engine on the logbook. I updated this when sending back the new keepers section and have received an updated logbook now showing 1098. No questions asked. Not sure if I got lucky or if it was meant t...

Re: Genuine convertible or not?

Thought I would share a few thoughts on this as we recently went through exactly the same dilemma with a similar budget to spend. All the research I did on genuine vs. converted convertibles suggested that actually in practice there was nothing much to choose between them and that a good conversion ...

Re: Engine size mismatch on the V5

Managed the journey to Chertsey Minors this morning for a more thorough investigation of the over heating problem. Journey fared ok thankfully, but have already built up a list of things to address in the spring when the weather's warmer! [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1443089484_22873 [...

In a scene reminiscent from Mike Brewer turning up at the garage on Wheeler Dealers with something very ominous (on a trailer), "Ruth" has been delivered!

Re: MMOC RAC Breakdown cover

Have you tried asking your insurance company for a quote for breakdown cover? I've just taken out a fully comp policy for myself and my wife which has come in at £96.93 for the year including European Breakdown Cover..

Re: Engine size mismatch on the V5

Thanks for all your thoughts folk - much appreciated. I couldn't get down to see the car in the end, so decided to get a pre-purchase inspection carried out by a local specialist. Bodywork turned out to be good in the end with all previous welding seemingly of a reasonable standard. All the usual ar...

Engine size mismatch on the V5

Hi All, I have found a 1953 Morris Minor I'm interested in. As it's a fair trek to go and view the vehicle, I thought I'd run though a few pre-checks first. I've discovered that the engine size is still listed as 918cc (GOV.UK check), yet from the photos of the engine bay, there's definitely not a s...
