Re: Our 1st Moggy. 1956 Split Screen. WSL 230
Although Mick is absolutely correct to be pessimistic of the chances of getting paid after a successful claim, I did get paid out successfully, in installments, a few years ago. I agree with Chris that it is a totally different situation with a solvent limited company, and would be surprised if they...

Re: Our 1st Moggy. 1956 Split Screen. WSL 230
but did you inspect the car thoroughly before buying? Sales 'puff' is just that...and always to be taken with a huge shovel of salt... Can't speak for the situation in Scotland, Roy, but under English law there is no obligation on the vendor to inspect thoroughly and the purchaser is entitled to re...

Re: Our 1st Moggy. 1956 Split Screen. WSL 230
If it makes you feel any better, you're not the first and probably not the last to fall prey to a dealer's "optimism". I bought my Traveller nearly four years ago from a "classic car specialist" in North Yorkshire, via eBay, for a little over £3k. It was described as an honest, s...

Re: Chassis Plate
I fully understand both these answers, and in many ways wish I had a nice original car with its patina intact. What I've got on my hands, though, is a total restoration which will be as new externally and internally, including the engine compartment. The bare metal plate would look, in my opinion, t...

Chassis Plate
My chassis number plate (the oval one) is intact but presumably due to paint removal in the past has none of the printed information, just bare aluminium with the stamped letters MAW5D 128****F. This is a late Adderley Park Traveller. Which pattern oval plate should I obtain to replace it with - is ...

Re: What seats?
A bit premature, as I won't be doing the interior until autumn, but I've bought a pair of early 70s MGB GT seats (against some advice on here). I wanted to keep it as original as possible, but also wanted headrests for safety. Making a sub frame doesn't look too difficult, and rebuilding and recover...

All the early factory photos in Ray Newall's book have them downwards/vertical. Later restored ones are every which way.....

Re: Welding wings
Quick update - I've overcome my Northern tightfistedness and ordered a new inner wing and flange from BM. Haven't got to the other side yet, so any experience of using the repair panel would still be of interest.

Re: Welding wings
I came on here tonight to ask a related question, so hope you'll view this as broadening the discussion rather than hijacking! I'm also doing the inner rear left hand wing of a Traveller, but will be renewing the rear spring hanger as well. As the price of a new inner wing and the Traveller flange i...

Wow! I've always viewed gearboxes as no-go zones requiring advanced engineering skills and equipment. Now I'm tempted to find a second hand box to rebuild. Thanks.

That's a cunning method of advertising a lot of vehicles and avoiding eBay charges!

Re: Roll over jig / Rotisserie
If the weather is fine this weekend I hope that I'll get mine finished. I've used Neil's scaffold pole method (2" dia) but instead of building frames I'm using a couple of builders steel trestles (£14 on eBay), and I'm using timber brackets in the car. I need to fit castors, so I'll bolt some 3...

Re: Break fluid dribbling. Where can I buy reservoir?
I'll be renewing my entire system when I rebuild in a few months, and I'm thinking of buying a flaring tool and making my own kunifer pipes. Two questions: 1 Is this a good idea for a moderately competent amateur? 2 What else would be needed to connect a kunifer pipe between a reservoir and the mast...

Re: Ex-Police Panda Traveller
I'm well on with my Traveller (well, I've told my wife it will be ready this year). Totally agree that NeilMG and Taupe's are the threads to follow, but also suggest you get hold of the rather pricey Ray Newell traveller book, if only for the section by Steve Foreman on replacing the wood.

Subjective or not, you do seem to know what you are talking about, so thanks, that's good enough for me.. When you were honing your lead loading skills all those years ago, I was jamming Isopon and chicken wire into rusty holes........

As I'll hopefully be moving on to panel prep fairly soon, has anyone any advice on favourite brands of fillers, or any to avoid?

Re: Bulkhead wiring arrangement
My original comment that it was factory fitted was based on th "Production Modifications" section of Lindsay Porter's Restoration Manual, which states: 1970. During the last months of production some models were fitted with an alternator rather than a dynamo. With it being a late model (ch...
