Re: Vibration and Ping!
I had a similar ping. Discovered it was the adjustment nut on the clutch linkage flicking the return spring as the clutch was released. I took the spring off and reattached it with the hooks facing in the opposite direction. No more ping.

What wouldn't I give to have a National Rally anywhere within 3000km of me? The National Rally in Australia would have taken me about 6 days to get to.

Completely lost timing.
I'm at my wits end. I've been trying to sort this for 3 days. Reinstalled the distributor drive spindle as per the workshop manual ie. No. 4 cylinder at TDC on compression stroke, insert spindle with slot vertical, small offset towards front of engine. Engages camshaft with the slot at approx 11o'cl...

Rattling distributor/drive spindle
G'day All, My distributor is rattling when accelerating, producing a constant click/rattle when driving and then rattles during deceleration. The noise is audible through the block near where the spindle contacts the camshaft but appears to be loudest where the distributor fits into the block. I'm t...

Loud 'Click' From Bell Housing
I'm getting a loud clicking noise from the bell housing between 60 - 70km/h. I'm told it is loud enough to be heard outside the vehicle. I have recently renewed the engine and gear box bearings and can't detect any unusual noise coming from either. I recently had the sump off and noted a tiny bit of...

Laygear circlips
Can anyone give me secret tip on how to get the circlips out of the laygear? It seems to be an earlier one with the circlips housed in a groove. I can't get the blighters out, I've tried swearing and everything.

Re: No drive.
Here is an update just for completeness: Right hand half shaft broke right at the hub end. On closer insepction it would appear that this was the result of a dodgy weld holding the end piece to the shaft. A repair to a previous break perhaps? I am in the process of 'borrowing' a second hand shaft fr...

No drive.
I just got towed home. Stopped at an intersection, into first gear to move off. Just as I was adding a bit of revs and releasing the clutch there was a metallic bang followed by a complete loss of drive. Engine seems be running fine and I can still select all gears. With the clutch pedal out there i...

Re: Annoying Noise
When I hear an annoying noise in my car, I find it is solved by either dropping her at her mother's house or the shops. It's usually quiet after that.

"I can't let you do that, Dave"
I arrived at work this morning and turned off the car and noticed the ignition light shining at me in a very HAL-esque manner. I popped the bonnet and opened the voltage regulator and had to physically flick the cut-out back to the open position which put the light out. I then re-started the car and...

Re: Number plate recognition in car parks
Sort of related. Recently reported in Australia, possibly true: Speed Camera Revenge Two weeks ago a speed camera van in Canberra was approached by 4 youths. Whilst the camera operator was talking to three boys about the van's equipment and how it works, the fourth boy proceeded to undo the van's fr...
