Re: Engine Colours

You could always go for gold or silver, which would be accurate for a '59 with later parts.

Re: Pickup back

I'm afraid you won't find that online, as it's a part unique to the pickup. I'd try calling salvage yards or maybe someone here has a pair, they're unlikely to be damaged even in a car in very bad condition, or hopefully someone else here has them. Cab back brackets/supports should work as a name to...

Re: Brakes not used for 17 years

On a completely new system I'd go for silicone as well. Do take note it can swell some rubber components so I'd leave them in silicone for a few days while assembling everything just to make sure. Also, if you plan on repainting any parts of the car better do it before or keep them very much away fr...

Looks better than the one that was in my pickup before it was restored.

Re: ebay strikes again

I really shouldn't spend my time in this but read through his feedback and it does look like he's legitimate, so maybe an older guy with no computer skills leaving the Internet advertising and pictures to an uninterested niece/nephew/son...?

Yes mine's a later model, didn't know about those design changes, it'll be interesting to see what other little details are different when I finally get around to restoring the '63.

Re: ebay strikes again

I'm even more puzzled now, the seller for the convertible is apparently a professional car dealer, every ad is just as bad and yet they have 100% positive feedback? (but not a single picture of a whole car, or a good description for that matter). Seems to me the seller could be legitimate, only with...

Seems alot for that car compared to this one ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1953-Daimler-Conquest-Solid-Running-Project-MOT-Tax-Exempt-2-5-Straight-Six/331813373507?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D35310%26meid%3Db3209d811a984bb28f03a2bd888c15...

Re: LED BULBS

I'd give them a try, especially in the trafficators I think the fact that they run much cooler than incandescents could help with longevity for the plastic. As for brake lights they may or may not be brighter but they'll definitely respond faster. In a car with a dynamo with the wipers and headlight...

Re: Engine running "strange"

They stopped so I'm glad it was just that. It does sound cool sometimes though :) Thought I was having spark + open valve at the same time so was looking into that; have a pretty short exhaust pipe so probably not much back pressure there but still, problem was cured so now I know where to look firs...

Re: Engine running "strange"

Engine sounding a bit strange I can see being caused from the loose exhaust clamp but wouldn't have thought the explosions when engine braking could come from that, those I associated more with bad timing or valves. Might try the copper wire since my exhaust clamp seems to be always coming loose eve...

Re: Engine running "strange"

Finally an update. Got to work on the car Friday afternoon, the exhaust clamp had come a bit loose so I tightened that first then checked, in this order: 1. Head torque - All nuts were fine, the wrench clicked right away except the last one with the bar which moved perhaps 1/8 of a turn before click...

Engine running "strange"

First off, engine is all standard 1098 with points, original carb and original head. "Refreshed" by myself and my father about 5,000 km ago with new rings (std), crank bearings (.010 or .020 I believe), journal bearings (.010), new oil pump, new valve guides, timing chain and pretty much t...

There's a few original Lucas coils on ebay, might be worth it to get one of those. There's used and NOS, but the latter are much pricier.

Re: Stupid Mistake

If it's working properly Windows 10 is by far the best, much better even than 7. I had a great experience upgrading on my desktop and even my 6 year old laptop but on my sister's 2 year old computer nothing worked and she had to reinstall everything from scratch so I'm guessing it all depends on the...

Can you get them relined? That's what my father and I have ended up doing on some occasion when new shoes are too expensive or too hard to find, with pretty good results.

Re: Dodgy Control Box?

They can go out of adjustment so I'd suggest checking with a tester every couple of months or so. Mine was overcharging to the point the battery boiled and spit out acid everywhere. About 1/8 of a turn backwards (and a bit of paint on the screw to keep it from moving) and everything's fine again.
