Re: Engine cut out and backfire
I had this on one of my campers, turned out to be a loose LT lead on the coil. As described by BMC unburned fuel passed into the hot exhaust and - BANG.

Re: Push or Pull?
Pullers are more efficient than pushers but as you said there is more room in front of the rad. Since the original fan is such a small affair I don't think there will be a problem with a modern lekky fan having that bit less performance through being a pusher and yes it definitely should be wired in...

Re: Traveller wood
Yes maybe not the best comparison by me but think about how an impact would act on filler then how a proper wood frame would cope, a bit like comparing a vase with a gate post, again not a great analogy but you get my drift.

Re: Traveller wood
I guess many people have, many have also driven round with filler holding metal door posts and chassis rails together. The choice is theirs but I wouldn't be happy even if it did have a nice shiny coat of paint on it.

Re: Track rod end/Ball Joint
Is the taper turning in the ball joint? If it is use your ball joint splitter to pull the taper onto the steering arm, ie the opposite way it's supposed to work.
Either that or cut the nut off with a hacksaw.

Re: at last a Haynes manual worth buying?
Found one for a Tie Fighter when rummaging through a box at an Evil Empire jumble on Tatooine. Home maintenance on an Imperial spaceship is fraught with danger though, the breakdown truck took ages to get there

Re: Twin Carb Advantage?
A mate of mine has just got a programmable mandrel tube bender and is starting up making exhausts (he already makes body panels for Commer PB's), I can see if he's willing to make Minor one's if anyone is interested. He's making standard bore and 1 3/4" ones for Commers (which is plenty big eno...
