Re: Insurance on a car in for resturation work
Sure the garage insurance would cover it?

Re: Floor & Sill Costs
Looking at your pictures, and the attitude of the garage, I would say he just doesn't want to get involved in rust repair (few do, to be quite honest) and is trying to put you off.
Go somewhere else if you value your car as it is.

Doesn't the earlier heater protrude up further than the centre-speedo variants?

Re: Caravaning with a Traveller
To round this off, the government have decided to rationalise things a little, and removed the need for the B+E test, now everyone even with a post-1997 licence will be able to tow 3500Kg: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-rules-for-towing-a-trailer-or-caravan-with-a-car-from-autumn-2021 The relevant ...

Re: Ebay
Great, glad to help one person at least :) Other thing is to make sure your browser is modern and up to date.... I had another chap complaining that they didn't want to stop using IE11 earlier this year.... IE11 is completely unsupported now, and no-one should be using it unless forced to by interna...

Re: Ebay
Yes, we should all use Ebay like it was in 1997, it was so good then. Times change, and the digital world is one of the fastest places it does, so things must be updated to keep up -either that or go out of business? Not sure what your specific issue is, but try clearing your browser cache ( https:/...

Re: Caravaning with a Traveller
A trailer or caravan cant be towed and its not down to weight .The right to tow goes by when you passed your driving test and obtained your licence. Incorrect, yes, even post-1997 licences. You may tow with even the most basic 'car' licence, there are weight restrictions unless you pass the B+E tes...

At this point, it seems like a simple issue, a picture or two of the engine bay may really help.

quite a bit later than anticipated, compression readings below: 1 - 175 2 - 165 3 - 180 4 - 180 All seems fine to me, apart from the small (<10%) difference between 2 and the rest. one thing that did strike me is that 3 & 4 plugs were quite oily, so i wonder if top hat seals certainly need repl...

Yep, and brake early, slow down, even crawling on idle in first for 50m is OK, and easier than another stop/start!

Re: Clutchless changes
Yes, just start the car in first, there is a surprising amount of torque from the starter. For driving, just rev-match, especially on the down-shift. For stopping, just feather the throttle so there is little torque on the gearset, and knock into neutral, bring car to stop with the brakes. Switch of...

Re: Caravaning with a Traveller
Just to clarify a little, as the way you have written it could be open to misinterpretation. In terms of licences the actual weights, as being driven, are irrelevant - its all about what the vehicle is plated at. If you do not have B+E on your licence, you can tow a trailer plated at 750kg behind a...
