Re: GPO Van Colours
I worked for GPO when it became Post Office Telephones (early 70's) and a lot of the green vans got painted yellow, rather badly, at the local PO garages. Visiblity and safety were quoted as the reason but I think it was to stop us engineers hiding away down country lanes!

Re: Has anyone tried to build there own trailer
I made one from scratch years ago but when I totted up all the costs it wasn't far short of buying a ready-made one.

Re: Why engine keeps flooding?
How does it run with the air cleaner off? Sounds like it, or the can are blocked not letting any air in.

I know the factory used to spray 'everything' green but I like the contrast of the gaskets, brass and aluminium, (and it will never be a 'show' car)

Re: First Service
My tip would be drain the oil FIRST and leave it to drain while you do the rest of the service. That way more of the black gunge drains out.

No-one has mentioned depreciation on modern cars.
For that amount of money you could have a really well serviced and maintained Moggie!

Re: Using a car body roller with Engine/gearbox in
I am about to do this as well. I have removed the engine though. How sure are you about the strength of the engine mounts? They are only bonded and I would hate to imagine what would happen if they parted!
Also, stating the obvious, have you removed the battery and sealed the master cylinder?

Re: Brakes Help please
An MOT is no assurance of roadworthiness. I bought an MGB last year and the seller put it through an MOT the day before I collected it. I subsequently found 6 items that it should have failed on. Pay up and look big, you can't mess about with brakes.
Nice looking car, by the way!

Re: Valve O rings and clips
Thanks BMC, did that with the o rings, just had hell of a job getting them on the stems, perhaps a tighter ring than normal (OOER!)
"Throw the clips away" - just what I wanted to hear, couldn't see the point of them anyway.

Valve O rings and clips
Is it just me or do others have difficulty getting the O rings over the end of the valves? (and NO, I am not trying from the mushroom end! ) I have managed to fit them, just a rant really.
Also are those clips round the collets really necessary?

Re: So...
If you can get hold of a voltmeter then put it across you battery with then engine off, you should get 12v. Then turn the engine on and rev it slightly and the voltmeter should show more voltage. If less, then it is not charging.

Re: How long do timing chains last?
I'm worried now about changing when the original may be of better quality than a replacement.
As I can see no apparent wear maybe I will stick with it and if it rattles too much, change it then.

Thanks for all your advice. I will go for a single chain and sprocket set I think.
