Re: LED BULBS

Best one to change to LED is the interior lamp. Then the fitting doesn't overheat and distort when you leave a door open for a while. Front side lights are no problem but I have found combined stop and tail lamps are less successful. The rear side light is brighter but the stop is not so bright and ...

Re: new points, car will not start

Hi Roley, How familiar are you with changing points? If you are new to points it is easy to get the plastic washers and connectors in the wrong order.

Re: Vauxhall Zafira won't run after oil change

You may have disconnected or disturbed the wiring to the air flow meter when you changed the air filter.
It is usually a black box with a multi-plug and wires between the air filter box and the inlet manifold.
Google it for a picture to identify it.

Re: Annoying 'Flashers'

A pet hate of mine as well. I flash the dip beam off using the switch on the stalk on my daily driver to say thanks but not always easy on cars with a light switch on the dash.

Re: engine oil

Comma oil has been around for years. All oils have to be made to a basic standard so I doubt you would have a problem with any oil. Cheaper it is the more often you can afford to change it!

Re: Just bought car - turned headlights on and car cut out

Mine was like this when I first re-commissioned it after 20 odd years. I took the control box off and on the back was a metal strap that had burned out. Worth a look.

Re: Numberplate question

Vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1973 may have registration plates displaying white, grey or silver characters on a black background. This quote is copied and pasted out of the VOSA MOT manual. Personally I wouldn't worry, it would be a very pedantic policeman who would pull up a 73 car for no...

Re: Blowing fuses

You don't say what year it is. Never mind, on the fuse holder you have 3 or 4 green wires. Disconnect them all and then reconnect each green wire one at a time until the fuse blows. This will give you a clue as to what section of the circuit is giving you a problem. Then leave the faulty one off and...

Re: Water leak

You need to find out if the water is coming in when the car is stood in the rain or if it is only when being driven in the rain. First drown the car with a hose from above to simulate rain. If no leak try soaking it from below at all angles. If still no leak then it must be being blown in with air p...

Re: Phone Costs

You can find alternatives to 0845 and 0870 and other numbers which, depending on your tariff, could be cheaper.
Search for "say no to 0845" or "say no to 0870"

Re: Do I need to SORN?

I think the police would take a dim view of you driving 50 miles with no MOT and then driving 50 miles back if it fails.
I think the rule assumes you will take it to the nearest MOT station. Here's hoping you don't get stopped.

Re: Copper grease on wheel stud threads

I have always use a smear of copper grease for years ever since having series 2 Landys whose wheel nuts would seize and pull the studs out of the hub if not oiled. I have never had a problem with any vehicle.
