Re: Vibration noises - where are they?
I too have a 69 Traveller and have been chasing rattles and squeeks for the last three years or so.
Quite often I do find the one that is currently annoying me, only to discover another new one almost straight away.
It is part of the charm of running a Minor

I had something similar last week, it was the small bore pipe to the vacuum advance that had pulled out of the rubber fitting on the carb.

Mine were well rusted up and only just came apart with spanners, I replaced them with stainless ones covered with plenty of copper grease.

Re: Tappet chest breather canister
Mike The RHS one looks to be for a Minor, the canister sits vertically when mounted on the engine. The LHS one looks to be a Mini one and the canister is canted forward, these do not fit a Minor and it will interfere with the bottom radiator hose. If you decide to fit one, I can modify it for you so...

I know many people will say Champions are good, but I have not had a much luck with them over the years with quite a few faulty new ones. My plug of choice is NGK, and so far I have never come across a bad one. I run NGK B6ES in my Traveller.

Re: Temperature Gauge false reading.
I added an electronic voltage stabiliser when I did mine, it uses the same sender and gauge as you have. Mine has functioned perfectly for the last three years. The electronic ones give you a steady 10V DC output, the Morris one on the back of the speedo is not really a true regulator as such, it ju...

You have the sender unit gripped to the metal beaker with a crocodile clip, but is the beaker earthed to the chassis as well ?

Re: Pitted piston - head gasket failure
Nourish Forgive my ignorance, but I dont understand why you would remove a gearbox and then the crankshaft just to inspect a piston. I would have thought removing the sump and taking off the big end cap, then lifting the piston out from the top with the head off would be quicker. Have I missed somet...

Re: 1098cc and Ford T9 Pairing
Hi
The other thing you did not mention was that the timing had been checked, mine was a bit rough until I realised it was a bit too advanced.
The electronic ignition is a good update, but you do need to get the timing right.

This one was fairing a little better in Anglesey Motor Museum. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Spotted this near Parys Mountain on Anglesey a couple of weeks ago, it was just laid in the field at the side of the road.

Why don't you try gently warming the alloy hub so it expands a bit, the carrier might just drop out.

Re: Ford discs-sticking caliper?
Mine had problems with brake judder when I got it, and to all intents and purposes the discs "looked" OK. I bought a new set of discs and the problem was sorted straight away, since then I have set the discs up in the lathe and skimmed them, one was only a few thou out but it was enough to...

Re: Poly engine mounts - anyone tried them?
I just dropped lucky last night, I found a pair of NOS ones on ebay that were mis-described as gearbox mounts.
I put some new repro ones in when I changed my rebuilt engine, and it is very noticeable how much you can feel the engine through the car.

Sounds like you got there in the end.
I dont know why people keep messing around with other Heath Robinson breather set-ups when this type works perfectly well.

I just made a stepped mandrel to fit the bore of the guide so they get pressed in nice and square, I used a 10 ton press with no trouble.
